It is time to officially welcome our GRSP student Ahmed Sendze (from Gabon). We will be having a party to officially welcome him on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Bill Woulfin's house from 3 PM to 7 PM. | 6 | 7 8 North Cobb: Event: Henssler Financial Poker Run We hope you will join us Saturday, October 7th, for the third Henssler Financial Poker Run benefiting the Kennesaw Public Safety Foundation and the Acworth Police Community Foundation! Register here! We will be meeting at Henssler Financial between 8:00am – 9:00am where riders will be registered, draw their first poker cards, and receive their shirts, scorecards, and other important information. When: 8:00 am – 9:00 am Where: Henssler Financial (3735 Cherokee St NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144) We will depart from Henssler Financial at 9:00am to begin the ride. To clarify, this is a hard start to avoid timing issues we have had in the past. The route proceeds north and more detailed description will follow. It will be an estimated 3-4 hours long. A barbeque lunch will be available for returning riders from 1:00pm-1:30pm. Additionally, there will be opportunities to multiply your chances of winning the $1,000 prize, purchase extra shirts, and enter a raffle drawing for some fantastic prizes! Interested riders must be back from their ride by 2:00pm to be considered in the raffle. Please remember to bring extra money if you are interested in participating in any of these. 8 | 9 | 10 | 11 9 Jackson-Butts County: Bob Ryan Memorial Golf Tournament The Jackson Butts County Rotary Club holds an annual golf tournament to raise money for the Butts County Recreation Department. Mr. Bob, as he was known by many in Jackson, Georgia, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, December 17, 2020. Bob grew up in Racine, Wisconsin, where thanks to a stranger paying his little league fees, he was able to develop a love for sports. He was an avid athlete at Kenosha High School and went on an athletic scholarship to the University of South Dakota. He had a successful career as a corporate executive for Unocal and raised three children. Mid-career, Bob wanted to be more engaged with people and the community, so he left his position at Unocal to start Atlanta South 75 Inc. in Jackson, Georgia. The Jackson community was his home for four decades, during which he made his indelible mark in the hearts and lives of so many. What defined Mr. Bob the most was his compassionate and caring heart that was filled with the love of God, which he so freely shared with anyone he met. He lived a life in service and care of others, always willing to give people a chance. Bob never forgot that someone paid his little league fees when his family could not afford to pay, and he chaired a golf tournament in Jackson for over 20 years so that children could have the opportunity to play sports for the Butts County Recreation Department. Bob served as our service project chairman for many years. In his honor, we will continue the tradition of the golf tournament each year to donate those funds to the Butts County Recreation Department so other young children can develop a love for sports and community just like Bob. 6p Newnan: Midwest Food Bank | Packing Boxes We will be packing boxes at the Midwest Food Bank as part of our Community Grants with other Rotary organizations in our area. The Extension is a faith based, 12 step, recovery program for both men and women. The residential program has Marietta facilities on Church St. Extension for the men and Holiday St. for women. North Cobb Rotary has provided dinner on a monthly basis for going on 15 years. It is a chance to get to know your fellow members in service as well as provide some encouragement for the men and women in recovery. Residents are required to gain employment during their residence, and they receive counseling, job preparation and life skills in addition to the recovery process. 15 East Cobb: Aloha to Aging - 3rd Annual Fall Festival Aloha to Aging, an organization we have
awarded funds to for multiple years as part of our Dog Days Giveback
Ceremony, has requested volunteers for their 3rd Annual Fall Festival,
Sunday, Oct
15th, at the Covenant Presbyterian Church right up the street from
IHCC.
They need additional assistance with set-up,
take-down and throughout the event. However, with enough interest we would even be welcome
to have a vendor table at the event as well. Since this is a "Family
Friendly" event, children's activities/literacy would be welcome.
There will be children's crafts, fire safety, fire truck, petting goats, DJ
with family activities, food and ice cream truck, pickle ball and a
variety of vendors. Last year they had 50 vendors and 300+ in attendance.
This year we anticipate a much bigger crowd!

The scholarships include a year's tuition at a high school overseas, room and board, and a monthly stipend. There is no cost to a club to award the $25,000.00 scholarship to a local Georgia high school student. The scholarships ARE available to children and grandchildren of Rotarians. | 20 | 21 12p North Cobb: Volunteer: Mountain Top Boys Home Cookout This annual Saturday BBQ for the Mt Top Boys, their families, and the community is a tradition. With so many new members, it is likely many don't understand the significance and the beauty of this event. It is a great time to get acquainted with other members and their spouses/partners, plus see the great work being done up there. (Moreover, it is a fun drive into North Georgia and the BBQ is always EXCELLENT!) Last year we raised $20,000 toward the remodeling of the building to be used for Family reunification.
