This Week's Speaker
Bill Garrett, President, Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School

Bill is the founding President of Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School. Under his leadership the school has quickly become one of the most successful schools in the Cristo Rey Network. Cristo Rey Atlanta now has 535 students, 125 graduates, 137 corporate sponsors and owns a downtown school building debt-free. Prior to joining Cristo Rey Atlanta, Bill served as the President of the Saint Joseph’s Mercy Foundation, where he was responsible for all fundraising activities for Saint Joseph’s Hospital and Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services. He also served as the Chief Mission Officer for Saint Joseph’s Health System, where he was responsible for maintaining the Catholic identity of the hospital, including patient quality, pastor care, ethics and volunteerism. Governors Ball on March 28
Join "Party Ardy" - Our President Elect - at a Fun-Filled Mardi Gras Celebration!

Bring your friends and join President Elect Ardy Bastien (aka "Party Ardy" after last week's Governor Ball update) for a night of fun and fellowship at the Dunwoody Country Club! The theme is Mardi Gras - and we'd love to see you sporting Mardi Gras costumes or masks. And, according to Marion Bunch, we'll all want to dance the night away to the music of the Flavor Band and Big Band!

We're returning this year to the Dunwoody Country Club - an awesome place to party. And of course, it's all in the spirit of raising money to fund our good work in the community and around the world! Don't miss out - register now if you haven't already at https://www.dunwoodyrotary.org/reservation/create?... The cost is $250 per couple; most members of the club have already paid for a couple as part of their dues. If you need help with your RSVP or purchasing guest tickets, contact Michael Parks at mbparks@aol.com.

And while the Governor's Ball is on your mind, think about:

  • buying raffle tickets (the odds are good for private box seat tickets at the State Farm Arena for Harry Styles on July 29)
  • reaching out to your friends who love fishing (there's an amazing Pensacola sports fishing package in the live auction)
  • checking out the rest of our auction items at rcdgovernorsball.com
  • thinking about what you or the local businesses you support might be able to donate to our live or silent auctions.

We're less than four weeks from Partying for a Cause! See more at rcdgovernorsball.com

Volunteer Opportunity
City of Dunwoody 2020 State of the City – Thursday, March 12

The 11th annual State of the City event will take place on Thursday, March 12, at 7:00pm, Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, Exhibit Activities Building, Fellowship Hall, 2nd Floor.

During the event, newly elected Mayor Lynn Deutsch will address the city with a focus on accomplishments and a vision for the future of the Dunwoody community. In a changed format from past years, the public will be invited to this dessert reception and address by the mayor.

As in past years, Dunwoody Rotarians will partner with the City to help host the event, welcoming guests at during the arrival time. The Rotary Club of Dunwoody will be recognized in the program for its hosting role and will also have an exhibit table with signage as a place for telling the Rotary story to the public. This is an excellent opportunity to:

  • Get to know Dunwoody’s new mayor
  • Become informed about upcoming community developments
  • Meet and greet city leaders and the public
  • Increase Rotary awareness in our community.

Volunteer opportunities: Set-up and staff the Rotary exhibit table, meet and greet attendees upon arrival for the 7:00pm event. We need about 12 volunteers (approximately one-hour time commitment)

Date/Time: March 12, arrival at 6:00 pm

To Sign-Up: Contact Rotarian Sara Etelalahti at sara.etelalahti@aprio.com or 678-763-7621

DeKalb Rotary Council Breakfast Features David Lee Windecher

On March 20 at 7:00 am, Dunwoody Rotarians are invited to join other Rotarians from the DeKalb Rotary Council for breakfast - in lieu of our normal Friday meeting. The featured speaker that morning is David Lee Windecher. David spoke at our club earlier this Rotary year; He’s led an unbelievable life and is doing big things in criminal justice reform. He wrote a great autobiography - "The American Dream: HisStory in the Making" - and they are making a movie out of his life. If you missed hearing him speak at Dunwoody, don't miss him at the DeKalb Rotary Council breakfast.

There are more good reasons to attend the Council breakfast: 1) we will honor Teachers of the Year for each of the Council's clubs, 2) each club will honor a Rotarian with the Show Rotary Cares that's presented in honor of our own PDG Bill Mulkey, and 3) the Council will honor one Rotarian with the You Are the Key award in honor of PDG Bob Grant from Stone Mountain, who was also an honorary Dunwoody member.

This year the meeting will be held at The CAC Center, 4522 Flat Shoals Parkway, Decatur, Ga 30034.

Member Spotlight
Meet Anne Glenn

Anne Glenn has served as President of our club and currently serves as the Global Grants chair for the district. She shared some of her life story with us in a Friday member moment. Perhaps the best of the story shared was in her journey with Rotary. She said, "I came to Rotary because the world I thought was mine disappeared and I was alone. I stayed in Rotary when I found a new community that became home. I will stay here as long as I can to make a difference for good in our world." Thanks to Anne for all she does to help the rest of us do the same.

Member Spotlight
Meet Josh Podczerinski

Josh has been around Rotary during his professional career but have never been a member. After moving to Dunwoody in April 2019 and becoming an “empty-nester,” he really wanted to get involved, serve his community, and meet more of his community neighbors. He has definitely found all of this in RCD since joining in August 2019.

Josh is originally from the small farm town of Caro, located in the “Thumb” of Michigan. Josh married his high school sweet heart, Laura. They will be married 27 years in April. Josh and Laura have two daughters; Maggie (19) who is finishing her first year at Georgia Southern University and Morgan (25) who is a family law attorney in Raleigh, NC.

After getting married in 1993, Josh and Laura moved to Colorado Springs where Josh served three years in the US Army. He spent the next nine years in Raleigh, North Carolina where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from NC State University, started work in public accounting, and earned his CPA license in 2000. A job transfer with a regional CPA firm brought him to the Atlanta area in 2002. Josh became a partner with an Alpharetta CPA firm that also did financial planning and earned his CFP® in 2009.

Josh continued to work in public accounting until October 2018 when he transition to a full time wealth advisor with Capital Directions an independent RIA. He considers himself a CPA who does financial planning. He prefers to describe what he does as a retirement income planner. He works with his clients to make sure they never run out of money in retirement.
