This Week Program!

Edward Shaw received his BS in Biology from Georgia Southwestern State University. After receiving his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institute of Health's Rocky Mountain Laboratories. He then spent four years as a microbiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta before taking a faculty position at Oklahoma State University. During his 15 years on the faculty at OSU, Dr. Shaw taught biology, immunology and graduate level courses in emerging infectious diseases and bacterial pathogenic mechanisms. He also directed an active research group studying the molecular mechanisms of obligate intracellular bacterial pathogens. In 2019, Dr. Shaw joined the faculty of PCOM South Georgia as an associate professor of medical microbiology and immunology. He is also the program director of the biomedical sciences program.

What You Missed Last Week!

Annie Jones owner of The Bookshelf in downtown Thomasville was our program. The Bookshelf is not just a place to purchase a book and be on your way. At The Bookshelf, there is something for all ages. There is even an area dedicated to young and up and coming readers.

Annie is involved in other activities that benefit the community, and she reminded us that September is National Literacy Day. The Bookshelf participates in the community’s One Book Project, an event that takes place each September. Annie explained the Project and how citizens can become involved even if they are not avid readers.

We had 76 in attendance last week, and we want to remember the date 7 October 2021. The is the scheduled date for the club’s 100 th Anniversary Celebration at The Biscuit. And let’s not forget 29 September 2021 we will be honoring local heroes. Remember our theme, “Serve To Change Lives.”

Let's Celebrate...
Student of The Month!

The Rotary Club of Thomasville continue to have informative and productive meetings each Thursday. At last week’s meeting we recognized five local students as students of the month. They were Carson Cochran from Thomasville High School, Bryce Shroats from Bishop Hall Charter School, Karsyn Bush and Joshua Glass from Thomas County Central High School, and Elise McPherson from Brookwood. We wish these students well as they work to complete high school and move on to the next phase of their lives.

You Are Important!
