Huskies and Summer Surfing, Oh My!
President's Message July 21

We are in full Golf and Tennis planning mode now.  Every week in our Rotascope you can learn about one of the many charities we support through the proceeds of the tournaments.  Our program this week features two of these organizations.  Come hear how we help support the Huskies at Crabapple Middle School and enjoy a special treat from Georgia Ensemble Theater's singing sensation Summer Surf Party.  Also this week we will receive an update about the rollout of our Grace Period international project in Zimbabwe.  It's sure to be a fun, informative meeting for all.

RRC Makes a Difference
Program July 21-Huskies and Summer Surfing

Don't Miss this Program!

MISSION:  To help anyone in the Crabapple Middle School Community with lodging or food needs.

Some background on this program from Becky Nelson: "Huskies Helping Huskies started in November, 2015 when the national Shop with a Cop program stopped funding middle school students for their trip to purchase $100 worth of Holiday gifts for themselves with a police officer escort.  They had to cancel due to lack of funding.  Linda Porter smiled when I walked in the office that day (for our girls were students at CMS) and asked if I could help the school counselor create a new event.  I knew, with the help of Roswell Rotary, I could.  Within 48 hours, we had Wal-mart engaged along with John Albers who was inviting the Civil Servants as our Hero Escorts.  A month later, we hosted 35 Crabapple Middle School students reflecting 23 families with a $100 gift card and an escort. While the students shopped, their families enjoyed a festive Christmas Party in the Wal-mart break room with Santa and Karaoke.  They ate breakfast donated by McDonalds and took home lunch donated by Walgreens + a 10lb plastic bucket with food for the holidays, $100 worth of gift cards for gasoline, Aurora movie and Dairy Queen treats.

A month later, Jamie Manenti, Holly Smith, Jenny Haley and I met to decide to make HHH official. More stories to come on Thursday about how HHH has made a positive impact in hundreds of lives affected by divorce, medical emergencies, unexpected job loss/interruption, unexpected lease termination or rent hike... And the rest is RRC history!"

And more from Thursday's Program

Be looking for a cool surprise from Georgia Ensemble Theater with a little Summer Surfing entertainment!

Why Jon Paul Needs Your Blood. Gate City sponsors "Pint for a Pint" on Wed, Aug 3

"With our upcoming blood drive, I thought you might be interested to know how much blood we used in the last 12 months here in Roswell.  That answer would be 2,546 units (or pints), which equates to almost 7 pints every day.  Of this total, we used 390 units for massive blood transfusions and another 138 pints for other emergencies.

As a Level II Trauma Center, our average may be a little higher than most community hospitals.  Although some patients may only need a routine unit during or following surgery, we also see trauma patients that require numerous pints while surgeons work to stop blood loss from injury.  For example, we have single accident victims that require two to three dozen pints if they arrive with significant blood loss.

As a Roswell Rotarian, I am humbled by the gift of life our members provide.  Please know your donation directly benefits your neighbors every day."
Jon-Paul Croom, President, Wellstar North Fulton Hospital

Every club member can support our hospital's needs. Encourage a friend or family member to give in your honor -- or give yourself.  Every Rotarian wins.  Every Rotarian helps.

For you or a friend to 'reserve a table' on Wed, Aug 3, click here to see availability and reserve your table.   For more info and questions, please contact Darrell Bartlett at Darrell.Bartlett@allegion.com or Hal Schlenger at HSchlenger@GreatSouthBenefits.com

After Hours Hosts "Bring Your Own Board" Night

BYOB was a hit!

After Hours hosted a social event Thursday: BYOB! No, that's not "Bring Your Own Beer," but beer was enjoyed. This BYOB was "Bring Your Own Board!" Several members used their creativity to set up food items on a fancy display. Think charcuterie, but way better! Yummy boards included a Mexican board, veggie board, chicken nugget board and chocolate-covered pretzel board. Members John Connell and Brooke Foxman live at a sweet spot at The Battery, so we enjoyed views of Truist Park while snacking, laughing and planning future projects!
