This Week's Speakers
Walt Carter and John Vinyard Talk About Leadership

Join us at Maggiano’s this Friday as we welcome Walt Carter and our own John Vinyard on the topic of leadership. This year, the two co-authored the book, “Stop Driving Behind Idiots, Leadership Systems for Breakthrough Performance.”

Walt has been running his own private leadership lab for decades, working shoulder-to-shoulder with executives, managers, and frontline teams through times of tremendous change. Today, he serves as the President and Chief Operating Officer at THG Advisors, the strategy division of Alba International Services.

John has guided clients in the US, Europe, Middle East, India (25 clients), Asia, Africa and the Pacific Rim. He has written 17 books on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and guided 17 organizations to win the Baldrige Award and another 50+ companies to win similar awards worldwide. He joined the Rotary Club of Dunwoody in 2024. [read more]

Opportunity for Service and Fun!
This Saturday, September 27 ... Come Enjoy Oktoberfest!!! And Volunteer!

Saturday, Sept. 27 at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church

St. Patrick's Dunwoody Oktoberfest is back for its second year, bringing festive flair and meaningful impact to the heart of the city - and the Rotary Club of Dunwoody will be there too, sharing information about our club and the work we do in the community. Dave Burr will coordinate a booth for our club at the festival - and would welcome your help if you can volunteer for 1-2 hours to represent the club and talk with prospective members? Please reach out to Dave (dave@mailcenteretc.com).

Hosted at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church at 4755 North Peachtree Road, directly across from Brook Run Park, this beloved fall event will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Learn more about this family-friendly event. [read more]

Whiskey Raffle Update
Keep Up the Good Work on Gathering Our Prize Pool!

We are now in the fourth week of gathering bottles of whiskey and other collectible spirits for the raffle. We’re on a great pace to make our goal of 30-40 bottles for 10 to 15 prizes. We have about 20 bottles in hand so we still need some whiskey!

We’ll take any whiskey—check with your most pretentious friends who talk solemnly about whiskey as if it’s a matter of grave import! (By the way, they’re right.)

But if you don’t keep company with said pretentious friends, let me remind you… We have a bottle registry at Dunwoody Beverage! The full list is included in this article when you click on "more." Read on to get even more information and expect a full update of our progress in donations and plan for sales at the first meeting of October.  [read more]

Fellowship Opportunity
Join the Wine Fellowship to Welcome Fall!

Mark your calendar for Sunday, October 5 and plan to join us at Ed and Judy Holliday's for wine and fun! Plan to arrive about 3:00 pm at 315 Cannady Ct, Sandy Springs, GA 30350.  Bring a bottle of your favorite wine and an appetizer or dessert to share. We may even have a wine that's been aged in whiskey barrels as a nod to our upcoming Whiskey Raffle. Come and see!

Anchor Place Respite Care Looking for Part-Time Activities Coordinator

Anchor Place has asked for our help with finding a qualified person to serve as its paid part-time Activities Coordinator. Speaking as a regular volunteer at Anchor Place, this position offers an opportunity to make a joyful difference in people's lives, so take time to think about whether someone you know might be interested.

Working 15-20 hours per week, the Activities Coordinator will assist in planning and delivering quality, joy-filled activities for Respite Day Program participants and volunteers, reporting to Anchor Place Director Mary Cohen.

The position will be part of the St. Patrick's Episcopal Church staff. Interested people can view the job description at https://episcopalatlanta.org/lay-staff-openings/. Letters and resumes may be submitted to Lori Kent at St. Patrick's via email at lori.kent@stpat.net.

Dunwoody Recognized for Alzheimer's Support

At a celebration last week for the good work being done around the Southeast to support Alzheimer's The Longest Day program, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody was recognized several times for its $20,000 contribution from its annual FORE! the Memories Golf Tournament fundraiser www.rcdgolftournament.com.

The club was in the Top 10 in Georgia within the Alzheinmer's/Dementia Rotary Action Group and #1 in the US! It was the 4th largest contributor in Georgia and received the Visionary Award this year which recognizes a shared vision of support for Alzheimer's for the club's $85,000 lifetime donations. Next May will be Dunwoody's 5th annual golf tournament and the club hopes to top the $100,000 lifetime donation level.

In addition to its financial support for Alzeheimer's The Longest Day program, the club is proud of its work with Anchor Place, a respite care program serving Dunwoody families dealing with a family member's memory issues. The Rotary Club of Dunwoody helped launch this program a year ago, and invests about 35-40 volunteer hours each week, along with some financial support to this program.

Save the Date!
Get Ready for the USO - October 30

Thursday October 30, 2025 will be Rotary Club of Dunwoody USO Volunteer Day. We will serve our service personnel and family members an “All American” lunch of hot dogs with all the condiments, potato chips, fresh fruit, snack bars, home baked cookies, bottled water AND a portion of baked Ziti & Mom’s meatball.

Volunteers: We would like to have eight volunteers for the day from 9 AM to 3 PM. Duties vary from greeter, cookie packer, hot dog grill mate, server, bag monitor, and "all around volunteer"  to handle anything else that needs to be done to serve our military service personnel. Let Charlie Augello know if you can join us.

Home baked cookies: Only the best for our military personnel. We ask the bakers to bake about 60 of their favorite hardy cookies. They can be delivered in bulk to the E.48th Street Market on 10/27, 28 and 29 before 6PM. We will repack them on the day of service. Please note hardy cookies are best since we recommend that volunteers take MARTA. Let Charlie know if you plan to bake.

Transportation: It is strongly recommended that volunteers take MARTA to the airport instead of driving due to the continued limited parking because of construction at the airport.

Other Ways You Can Help: Members who are unable to volunteer can participate by donating bottled water (small bottles) and snack bars such as Nature Valley available at Costco at reasonable prices. Items can be dropped off at the E.48th Street Market on 10/15 and 16 before 6PM. A shout out to our new members please consider volunteering at the USO, it is one of the most satisfying and rewarding day of service.

Special Shout Out to New Members: Please consider volunteering at the USO, it is one of the most satisfying and rewarding day of service.

Please contact Charlie Augello at Italian@e48stmarket.com  if you would like to be a volunteer or be a cookie baker.
