KeyWay Report: Mandy Eidson
At Friday’s meeting, Mandy Eidson of Self-Help Credit Union shared how the organization is expanding access to affordable financial services and investment across Atlanta’s West Side. Self-Help is a Community Development Financial Institution, low-income credit union, and Minority Depository Institution focused on serving communities that have historically faced barriers to traditional banking.
Mandy highlighted the serious impact of predatory lending, including examples of borrowers facing extremely high interest rates, and discussed how Self-Help helps individuals refinance harmful loans while also providing financial education, second-chance banking, homeownership support, and community lending.
Since entering Atlanta, Self-Help has invested more than $40 million locally, much of it supporting affordable housing and other community-focused projects.
Members were also invited to Self-Help’s International Credit Union Day event on October 15 from 5:00–6:30 p.m. at its West End branch.
