FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com

President's Message
Triple Booked This Saturday

I hope that Frantz Fortune's story of seeing something wrong in the world and working to fix it inspires you to volunteer some time this Saturday. We have some great opportunities to serve; If you want to bring the little one's, come help clean up the river, the teenagers are welcome to join us at VEO for a work day and while the topic is adult in nature the whole family is always welcome at Gate City. Will I see you out in the community serving others this weekend?

This Week's Program
Our Local Breweries

Variant and Gate City are vibrant meeting places in our community. On any given day you can find a family with their kids and dogs in tow hanging out, a community event taking place, employees from one enjoying the beer of the other or folks planning the next big thing in Roswell over a pint. Our members, Pat Rains (Gate City) and Michael Curling (Variant) will share some insight into the craft beer industry, the impact the breweries have on our local economy and why they work together on beers like Walking Distance v2.

New Member Spotlight - Lucy Hall

Lucy Hall, Founder and CEO of Mary Hall Freedom House (MHFH), grew up surrounded by poverty and addiction, not knowing there was another way of life. At age six she lost her mother to alcoholism, and later lost two brothers to addiction. Lucy, struggling with her own addictions, gave birth to her daughter at the age of 27. Fearing she was destined to repeat the cycle of generational addiction that had plagued her childhood, Lucy decided to get help and entered substance abuse treatment.

In 1996, Lucy felt called to help other women and families struggling with homelessness, addiction, and poverty. She founded MHFH in honor of her mother, Mary Hall, and started the organization in one apartment housing two women. MHFH is a leader in recovery services and housing for women, children, veterans, and families providing a continuum of services to end homelessness, addiction, and poverty. Since MHFH began in 1996, it has served more than 15,000 individuals blossoming into a vital community asset.

She is the proud mother of two children, Mary and Christian and enjoys family, faith, and fitness. Lucy has a B.S. in Human Services from Shorter University and is a national credentialed substance abuse counselor.

Honoring Our First Responders

Jeff McCoy is organizing another Patriot Flight, a project he did during his year as President of Roswell Rotary. Flight is tentatively scheduled for later this fall and will involve taking 30-40 of Roswell's first responders to New York City for a day meant to honor their service to our community. If you are interested in helping plan or sponsoring the next trip please reach out to Jeff at 678-852-4297.

Wednesday, September 25 | 6PM - 9:30PM
Introduce A Friend To Rotary

Bring a non-member with you to Houck's Grille. Don't think of this as a time-share sales pitch, but a casual way to introduce the people in your life that say, "what's Rotary?" to our club. This event is perfect for friends, family, neighbors, co-workers or employees that have a heart for service and you think would be a great addition to our club.

Saturday, September 28 | 8:30 - 11:30 AM
Chattahoochee River Clean Up

Break out your waders and come help us clean up the Hooch. This is a family friendly service project. If you can pick up trash you can assist. Reach out to Dutch Earle if you are interested in participating: hearle@esitalent.com

Saturday, September 28 | 8:30AM - 4PM
VEO Workday

Want to help veterans get back on their feet? Volunteer to help us at a workday at the Veterans Empowerment Organization in Atlanta. We will paint, power-wash, make minor repairs and help clean up their facility. Meet us at Roswell Area Park to carpool down to VEO. Bring some basic hand tools and family members who are teens or older that want to help out. For more info contact David Wash at 404-931-7133 or dmwash001@gmail.com.

Saturday, September 28 | 6PM
Freedom Fighter IPA Launch Party

Wednesday, October 2 | 5PM - 8PM
Join Us For Hump Day

Join your fellow Rotarians for a bit of fun mid-week. Bring your significant other or a prospective member. Stop by for a drink or stay for dinner either way, we hope to see you there.

Saturday, October 5 | 1PM - 5PM
Family Fun On The Farm

Gary Garrett's farm is a great place to bring the entire family for a fun day with your Rotary friends. Shoot clays, ride ATVs, watch football and explore the farm. Please RSVP to Chris Archer at chrisarcher2016@gmail.com and plan on bringing a side or appetizer to share.
