President's Message
INSPIRATION IS AROUND EVERY CORNER OF ROSWELL ROTARY!

On Thursday, Egbert Perry, a titan in the business world, will share his insights as Immediate Past Chairman of Fannie Mae and CEO of The Integral Group. Fannie Mae is a $3.2 trillion mortgage giant and the largest financial institution (by assets) in the US. Egbert served on its board from 2008 to 2018, the last five years as its Chairman. He will share lessons learned from the financial crisis and how regulations changed to influence the mortgage and housing markets today. In addition, Egbert is inspiring new thinking as it relates to addressing the community development crisis in this country, elements of which are in the Roswell community. Click Here to read his most recent article outlining his view of the community development challenges and the possible solutions.

On Saturday, Rotary International President Barry Rassin will inspire us with his travels around the Rotary world (literally) and what it means to be a Rotarian! Roswell Rotary is blessed to be one of the 35,000 Rotary Clubs to be visited by President Rassin and his wife, Esther! We will have over 150 Interactors joining us for lunch and packing supplies for Puerto Rico’s seniors! That evening, we will have the opportunity to meet with President Barry and Esther at Bob Hagan’s house and raise money to end polio. This is a day that will make you proud to be a Rotarian, especially a Roswell Rotarian.

But there's more inspiration coming!

During February and March, Roswell Rotary continues the Entrepreneur’s Workshop;

On 2/17, Roswell Rotary will provide lunch to young women in foster care who are selecting their prom dresses;

On 2/22, we celebrate Rotary Has A Heart at Hearts for Honduras to help feed lunch to children in Honduras;

On 2/23, we celebrate with the Veterans Empowerment Organization to help our homeless veterans;

On March 1, we will read to our kindergarteners a book about kindness and inclusion; and

On March 16, we will put on a great track meet at the Roswell Rotary Relays!

I hope you are inspired to engage in our meetings, and these projects and social events with your Roswell Rotary family. Roswell Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self is second to none because of each of you!

Roswell Rotary Rocks!

President Becky

P.S. As Col. Schmidt shared last week, go be inspired by Admiral McRaven's talk on making your bed. CLICK HERE You will be glad you did!

This Week's Speaker
Egbert Perry

Egbert L.J. Perry, a native of Antigua and Barbuda, is the former Board Chairman of Fannie Mae where he served from 2008 to December of 2018. Egbert is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Integral, a company he co-founded in 1992 with a mission to “create value in cities and rebuild the fabric of communities.” Since then, Integral has become a premier provider of sustainable real estate and community solutions in mature and emerging markets across the United States and, more recently, internationally. The company is vertically integrated with subsidiaries in the community development, commercial real estate, investment management, property management, and program management fields.

Since entering the commercial real estate and construction profession in 1979, Egbert has developed and/or built most project types, including residential, office, retail, institutional, and mixed-use projects. From 1980 to late 1992, he helped grow an Atlanta-based real estate and construction company into the nation’s third largest African-American owned business, with annual revenues of about $200 million.

Integral’s mission was first put on display in 1996 when Centennial Place, a collaboration that also involve another firm and the Atlanta Housing Authority, was created. This forward thinking project was the nation’s first urban mixed-use community, integrating mixed-income housing, early childhood development, K-12 education reform, recreation, health & wellness facilities, and human services. This holistic revitalization approach to community development has since been emulated in Atlanta and scores of cities across the country.

Over almost a quarter century, Integral has implemented scores of public-private partnerships that promote “responsible” community development and commercial real estate. It is well-respected for its expertise in affordable, workforce, luxury, and mixed-income housing solutions, often as components of master planned, mixed-use and Transit Oriented Developments.

Today, Integral is a diversified, 300-person organization with projects in themed-Atlanta, Southeast, Southwest, and Western regions of the United States. The company is headquartered in Atlanta, with offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Denver.

Integral and Egbert have received numerous awards, and are regarded nationally as innovators in the field of urban development and revitalization. Egbert’s policy positions are often sought on issues of housing, community economic development, regional planning and development, regional planning and development, public-private partnerships, and K-12 education reform.

An honors graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Egbert received both BS and MS degrees in civil engineering from the University’s Towne School, and a MBA degree with majors in finance and accounting from the Wharton School. In 1990, he was named to the University’s “Gallery of Distinguished Engineering Alumni” for the Engineering School.

Egbert has served on boards such as Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Atlanta International School and The United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.
