PAST DISTRICT GOVERNORS
FAMILY OF ROTARY
Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com
Once again, we learn from our youth as the winners of the Laws of Life essay contests from Roswell High and Independence High share their essays at Roswell Rotary. Character matters. For me, character is doing something right when no one is looking. It is built through a series of life experiences—good and bad. Choosing how each of us responds to our experiences is all we can control in this life. In living our lives, we can choose honesty, courage, perseverance, patience, gratitude, self control, hard work, helping others and, above all, we can choose love. As Rotarians, we choose to inspire others through Service Above Self and the tenets of the Four Way Test. On Thursday, come be inspired by these students who have chosen to write about a life experience and how they responded.
Thursday also kicks off the 2018-2019 District Conference in Sandestin! District Governor Court’s theme “Have Fun and They Will Come” encouraged all of us to have fun at Rotary this year and no one does that better than Roswell Rotary. Over 70 Rotarians and family members will be having fun at the beach! 20 of us will be competing in the Big Wheel Races on Thursday night. Watch social media to share in the Roswell Rotary FUN and important updates! Finally, please welcome back to the podium Past President Jeff McCoy as he leads our meeting this week!
Have a great week and we will do our best to HAVE FUN at District Conference in the Roswell Rotary tradition!
President Becky
A Law of Life is a short, pithy saying or quotation that points to a core personal value or ideal. Often times, a Law of Life serves as a memorable and meaningful moral compass on a person’s journey through life. The Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest asks students to select their own Law of Life, and to write about how it applies to their lives. In doing so, students reflect deeply and write from the heart about what they think matters most. The contest celebrates the students’ stories and their often profound reflections, and proudly presents significant cash awards to students and teachers.
The Georgia Laws of Life Essay contest provides one $100 winner per school and three $50 grade level winners for each school that meets the minimum participation requirements. To participate in the contest, a student must attend a high school that is registered with the contest for the current school year. All essays are submitted through the schools.
Rotary clubs operate the contest through the nonprofit Georgia Rotary Districts Character Education Program, Inc. Clubs support the Laws of Life contest financially and recognize winning students at local and district-wide meetings and conferences. Rotary clubs also supply volunteers who read and judge essays, who serve on the contest’s Board of Directors, and who volunteer their professional expertise to help build character and ethical literacy in our younger generation.
