Project Summary: More than two dozen Rotarians committed 3 years and hundreds of hours to bringing hope to Honduras through this life-changing Global Grant. The Roswell Club, in partnership with the Villa Real De Tegucigalpa Rotary Club in Honduras, was awarded a Grant in the amount of $73,225 during the 2015-16 year. But the work started early this Rotary year and we now have safe, clean water flowing in two communities of the poorest part of southern Honduras.
Objective: To get potable water to approximately 1,900 people (380 families) in the communities of El Resbaloso and Piedras Blancas in the Goascoran municipality. Because it is so hot and dry, these communities currently spend about one-third of their very modest income buying water. This project will provide them with their own water resource and each house will have water delivered through a pipe distribution system.
Additionally, approximately 80 latrines will be constructed for the families who do not have a latrine or their existing latrine is not functional.
Sustainability: The distribution system is in the final stages of testing. The next step is community training on maintaining the water system. The final phase of the project is the latrines.

We enjoyed a strong relationship with our in-country partner club to insure sustainability and to make sure the project fit the people being served. Tegucigalpa has become a sister club and we now have strong bonds of friendship between our members. |
