FODAC

North Atlanta Rotary initiated and lead the July 30, 2016 collection of home health medical equipment and supplies for recycle and refurbishment by FODAC, Friend of Disabled Adults and Children. This service project was accomplished in a collaborative effort with volunteers from a total of 7 Rotary Clubs, 1 Rotaract Club, the 57th Squadron Restaurant and FODAC. Over 42 volunteers showed up to help collect a variety of item totaling more than $161,000. Chris Brand, FODAC CEO stated that "this was the most successful collection drive of any volunteer group ever for FODAC." Chris, a fellow Rotarian was present and a volunteer supporter throughout the day.

We met on the patio of 57th Squadron Group Restaurant starting the morning with an opportunity to "break bread" and socialize before receiving directions from NARC Event Chair and PP Ralph Sims. From the 57th we hit the streets for the collection process, bringing all items back to the truck located in the parking lot of the 57th Restaurant. Participating volunteers represented the Rotary Clubs of North Atlanta, Brookhaven, South DeKalb, Tucker, Stone Mountain, Sylhet Sunshine of Bangladesh, and Duluth, as well as North Atlanta Rotaract Club and FODAC.

In-kind donations included all volunteer hours and equipment such as SUVs, pickup trucks, trailers, hitches, one box truck, and the parking lot and patio at the 57th Squadron Restaurant. Financial donations included the cost of breakfast and drinks to keep the volunteers replenished during this hot July morning. A conservative estimate of volunteer hours is 260.
