Serving Humanity When Disaster Strikes

When disaster strikes, whether it be flood, earthquake, famine or plague... Rotarians do more than observe: They Respond.
- Wayne Hearn, The Rotarian Magazine

When disaster strikes, Alpharetta Rotary responds to "Serve Humanity" by contributing over $26,000 in relief funds.

Polio Outbreak in Nigeria

Alpharetta Rotarians raised $17,647 for the PolioPlus Fund as part of World Polio Day to combat the outbreak in Nigeria. It cost 60 cents to protect one child from polio; our contribution will keep over 29,000 children polio free.

Hurricane Matthew Relief

Alpharetta Rotary contributed $2,500 towards a $30,000 global grant organized by the District that will be used in Les Cayes, Haiti to fight the Cholera outbreak and repair tin roofs in the community.

After Hurricane Matthew, the Club reallocated their DDF Grant to support ShelterBox's effort in Haiti. The Club applied the $4,000 grant to purchase four ShelterBox Kits for Haitian Families.

D6900 Disaster Relief Fund

Record rainfall dropped in southern Louisiana this past August and flooded 100,000 homes. Additionally, our rotarian friends within the southern areas of our district have been affected by a tornado in January. DG Raymond made a call to Serve Humanity through disaster relief. Alpharetta Rotary answered and contributed $2,000 to support those affected in Louisiana and South Georgia.

Alpharetta Rotarian Involvement

Every Rotarian contributed to the disaster relief efforts. Alpharetta Rotary will volunteer with boots on the ground. Trips are scheduled to help Albany this Spring and a humanitarian trip to Haiti is planned for the Fall.
