Fall Alpharetta Day of Service

Alpharetta Rotarians, family members and friends joined together to clean up areas in Wills Park for the Alpharetta Day of Service. This was a special day designed for volunteers to serve the community, and it all started as a partnership with the YMCA, Rotary Club of Alpharetta, and the City of Alpharetta. The event has now grown to include churches and volunteer groups and continues to grow each year. This year, we are working with Rivers Alive, which is one of Alpharetta Rotary’s on-going project partners.

Rivers Alive is Georgia’s annual volunteer waterway cleanup event that targets all waterways in the State. The mission of Rivers Alive is to create awareness of and involvement in the preservation of Georgia’s water resources. Alpharetta’s Rivers Alive event involved a variety of volunteer projects. Alpharetta Rotarians served by cleaning up the stream areas at Wills Park by taking out brush and ivy; clearing the banks and preparing a rock garden to help prevent soil erosion on the stream; spreading mulch on the playground; and cleaning up around the Pavilion area which were all very much needed activities for the park.

Alpharetta Rotary President Jason Binder said, “Our Rotary motto is “Service Above Self” and this cleanup project is a great example of Alpharetta Rotarians helping to make our parks a cleaner, safer and nicer place to play and visit. We are honored to be able to give back to the community by cleaning, restoring and beautifying areas that people love in Alpharetta.”
