Don and Barbara Thomas were always strong supporters of the Georgia Rotary Student Program.Through the years they helped entertain Roswell Rotary Club’s GRSP students.Barbara and Don were Will Watt Fellows, Hue Thomas Fellows and Kendall-Weisiger Fellows.
In June of 2001, Don and Barbara created a substantial Charitable Remainder Trust to be given to GRSP and established the Barbara M and Donald L Thomas Peace Award so that each year a deserving GRSP student would be given a generous award. For years and years to come, this award will make it possible for Roswell Rotarians to financially assist deserving GRSP students.
After Don and Barbara passed away, their two sons, Don, Jr. and Rys, have continued to enthusiastically support this program, presenting the award to a GRSP student who exhibits the spirit of GRSP and who is in need of financial assistance.
It is an honor for the Rotary Club of Roswell to administrate the Barbara M. and Donald L. Thomas Peace Award.A committee of past presidents oversees the selection process each year and the check is presented each Spring at one of the weekly meetings.
The Barbara M. and Donald L. Thomas Peace Award grants a $1500 scholarship to a GRSP student who exemplifies the spirit of GRSP and who is in need of financial assistance. Nipuna Ambanpola is the recent recipient.
