In January and February we held a blanket and clothes drive to collect needed items to be donated to our local homeless coalition. The program is ran through the Emmaus Women's Shelter where all items are first offered free of charge to the homeless and then offered to other community members at reduced prices. All proceeds are then put towards running the homeless program.
This program brought attention to the needs for some of our community members who, unfortunately, are often neglected. This year again the LaGrange Homeless Coalition was able to secure a location to be used as a warming shelter for these individuals. The organization was then in need of materials to offer to the men and women who needed this service. Our Rotary Club was quick to arrange for members to bring clean blankets and clothes, food and monetary donations to fill this immediate need.
All items were brought to our regular club meetings and then transported to the Emmaus Women's Shelter. This simple but necessary project is an example of the ability of an organization to respond to an immediate community need.
In-kind contributions reflect items/funds that were collected for this project.
Rotarians Rayleen, President Jake and Barbara prepare to transport another load of donations to the shelter.
Homeless and Veterans have first choice over collected items.
