New Member Sunshine Program

This year we continue to emphasize membership growth and retention within our club. The key to a successful club is to not just stack up new members but rather to invite individuals who will be an asset to our club and who will also benefit from being an active member of our club. Our new Sunshine Program is an effective way to welcome our new members and help them get to know what Rotary is all about.

All new members have a sunshine smiley sticker placed on their Rotary badges, this allows current members to also recognize them and welcome them. The new members must complete three mandatory tasks and one elective within their first three month period in the club.

The Required tasks are:

1. Assist the secretary at the check-in desk at four regular meetings.

2. Attend a board meeting.

3. Complete one makeup event (other than a board meeting).

The Elective tasks are:

1. Sign up for a committee and attend at least one meeting.

2. Participate in a service project of the club.

3. Give a three-five minute vocational talk to the club.

Our new members seem to appreciate being an active part of the club right from the beginning. At the end of the three month period and after the tasks have been completed, the sunshine smiley sticker is removed and the new member is then again welcomed and thanked for their commitment to our club.

This program benefits all of our club members.
