East Cobb Sunshine

East Cobb SUNSHINE, a tradition started in the early years of the club and still a favorite today, is a regular part of the club's weekly meeting agenda. The Sergeant-At-Arms announces: "For our guests and visiting Rotarians, Sunshine is a time when you can give $1.00 to speak about yourself or $5.00 to speak about your business. The person who contributes the 100th dollar names the charity of their choice to receive the $100.00."

During Sunshine, we hear updates on the personal and professional lives of club members with information about vacations, family members, health issues, and college sports rivalries as well as members donating the dollar amount for years of a birthday or wedding anniversary. It's a time of fun, teasing, laughter, applause, and also care for each other when life's challenging circumstances arise. Designated recipients of funds usually are those already supported by the club in some way such as Center for Family Resources, Kidz 2 Leaders, Canine Assistance and many others. On special occasions, a designated charity is named at the beginning of Sunshine time, and members hand over currency without speaking just to contribute to the cause as was done with Bucks for Baton Rouge after devastating storms ravaged that area of the country. This year President Sam asked every member to donate their birthday dollars to our East Cobb Foundation for increasing both principle and interest of the fund in support of our new AVID signature project. Creative vision has extended SUNSHINE into this year's realm of DARING TO BE BETTER by dovetailing Sunshine, East Cobb Foundation and Youth Service as a clear means of SERVING HUMANITY.
