Dr. Tom Price served as our East Cobb area congressman in the US House of Representatives for many years until recently named to the President's Cabinet as US Secretary for Health and Human Services creating a vacancy for his former House seat. A rush of 18 candidates now bring themselves to the public for election. A serious need for community presentation of these candidates exists, and the Rotary Club of East Cobb is addressing that need along with the East Cobber magazine in co-sponsoring a Candidates Community Forum.
Because Rotary is a non-political humanitarian organization, President Sam Pierce very wisely consulted with the club's board members, past presidents, and then the whole club to verify that this intended community service project would be acceptable and supported by club members since it is non-political, non-partisan.
The eighteen (18) candidates running for Tom Price's Congressional seat are being invited to participate in a Candidates Community Forum at Wheeler High School Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 7:00 pm. With many candidates being relatively unknown and a short time frame for campaigning, the public needs an opportunity to hear the candidates and make decisions for casting an informed vote. Moderator Ross Cavitt of WSB TV will offer each candidate a limited amount of time to introduce themselves, and then will ask questions submitted in writing by audience members.
Since Georgia State Senator Judson Hill resigned his seat to campaign for the US House of Representatives, another Candidates Community Forum will be held on April 12th at the East Cobb Library Community Room for the eight (8) candidates seeking election to that seat in the State Senate. A format similar to the one in place for the April 11th forum will be utilized.
