Human Trafficking Community Awareness Event

On January 14th North Atlanta Rotary co-sponsored, with Brookhaven Rotary (lead club) and Dunwoody Rotary, a Human Trafficking Community Awareness Event showing the film "8 Days" a graphic film about the Human Trafficking industry. This event was held in the North Springs Charter High School auditorium. Afterward there was a panel of law enforcement representatives from agencies here in Georgia to lead a discussion on the subject.

Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura and Brookhaven Rotary Club President Bonnie Hardage pulled together an impressive group of law enforcement representative from the FBI, GBI, DeKalb District Attorney, and Police Chiefs from Sandy Springs and Dunwoody, in addition to Brookhaven, along with moderator Lisa Cohen of the CNN Freedom Project. This group was there to help inform the general public about the prevalence of this horrific and violent industry here in our communities and to give constructive information for the public to act upon. It was a very informative and insightful evening with approximately 200 people in attendance.

The number of beneficiaries of an event such as this are hard to estimate. There are the people in attendance, and then there is the exponential heightened awareness of the existence of the industry that is now carried forward and shared with others. We hope an event such as this starts and/or enhances the conversations and awareness with parents, faculty, students, and the community at-large.
