Guest Honoring high school seniors who have enlisted in military service. Rotary Club of Americus will have a luncheon, program, and presentation of special gifts prior to their departure. | 4 6:30 Buckhead: Breakfast with the Bravest The Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation will be recognizing the bravery and courage of the fire fighters, EMTs and paramedics serving in the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department on International Fire Fighters day May 4th. Buckhead Rotary has supported this event in previous years by manning the registration and also greeting guests and guiding them to their tables and we need about 10 volunteers to do so again. We will meet at the GA Aquarium in the Oceans Ballroom at 6:30am. Guest The Gathering Place is a community-based student leadership development organization that has served the youth of the southeast since 1981. Annually, The Gathering Place reaches thousands of Middle School, High School, and College age students through a variety of programs such as mentor groups, large outreach events, and internships. Guest Schunzel began his coaching career at Purdue University in March of 2005, helping lead the Boilermakers to a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 and a 25-9 record.
Schunzel left Purdue for Valparaiso University where he helped guide the Crusaders to a 44-24 overall record and a pair of Horizon League Championship finals in two seasons.
His volleyball career began as a player at both the collegiate and professional level, starting in 1999 as a four-year starter at Ball State University. The three-year team captain brought the Cardinals to the 2004 NCAA Final Four and a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) Championship.
Individually, the four-year starting setter earned second team All-America honors in 2004 and honorable mention recognition in 2003. Schunzel was a four-time All-MIVA honoree, garnering first team honors 2002 through 2004 and honorable mention in 2001. He also was named to the MIVA All-Academic team four times.
After graduation, Schunzel played professionally with Germany’s VfB Friedrichshafen Volleyball Club in 2004 and 2005.
Keeping with the volleyball theme, Schunzel’s wife, Briana, was the 2004 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year while a setter at Ohio University. The couple has two sons named Griffin and Grady. 12:15p Thomasville: 12:15 Blue Bear Farm & Cattle Co. LLC
Guest Our family farm is located in the Red Hills region of southwest Georgia, an area known for its rolling hills, quail plantations, and lush grasses and forages. We are south of Cairo, conveniently located between Tallahassee and Thomasville.
Our mission is to produce high quality grass fed and grass finished beef. Our herd consists of both registered and high percentage Red Devon cattle. Red Devons are a Livestock Conservancy heritage breed and are widely recognized as one of the most efficient breeds of cattle to flourish on grass and to produce flavorful beef. We continue to expand our herd by introducing new genetics to advance the optimum characteristics of the Devon breed. Raising our animals naturally from birth to finish makes for a more humane existence, assuring their health and wellbeing. Our cattle are gently handled, respected and frequently named.
Our grazing management practices do not allow confined feeding, grain by-products or GMO plants. Our cattle are always grazing on our land and thereby contribute to the process of regenerating our soil and grasses. Raising cattle solely on pasture forages takes time, but adds flavor to the beef. The natural docility of the Devon breed lends to a pleasant texture and tenderness. Grass fed beef is leaner, lower in cholesterol, saturated fats and calories as compared to grain fed beef. For those of you who haven't taken part in these events before, it is a fun and easy way to get engaged with your fellow Rotarians and share some fellowship with our Atlanta Police Officers. The activity involves some setup (everything will be already prepped), arrangement of food, grilling, chatting with officers and then cleaning up. After having done this a few times now, we have it down to a science! | 14 6p Americus: SHEFFIELD GALA The Rotary Club of Americus will host the annual Sheffield Gala and Silent Auction to honor the 2021 and 2022 Sheffield Leadership Award Winners. The event will be held at The Carnegie (1/2 block walk from the Windsor Hotel) in Americus, GA. Guest John Drummond is a native of the Florida Panhandle. After graduating from Milton High School, he joined IBM and served for 23 years, with technical roles in service, sales and administration. He launched two online retail companies in Atlanta, and published a book about one of them, titled Reinventing The Wheel: The Story of Unicycle.com, available on Amazon.com.
John is a drummer in the orchestra at First Baptist Church in Milton, and also plays with a classic rock band with horns, the Bay Bridge Band. Hobbies include playing guitar and banjo, and riding a unicycle for fitness. He prefers nonfiction books; he wants to know that what he’s reading really happened.
John earned a bachelor of science degree in communications from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. He married his high-school crush, Cindy, 41 years after high school. Combined, they have five grown children and five grandchildren.
John launched Five Star Painting of Pensacola, a franchise, in May 2016. “We have to earn the right every day to trade with our customers,” he says. “Our reputation is the basis for the many referrals we receive.”

Rob Goldin's office staff-Amanda King, Haven Garner, Alisha Goldin. 6p Dunwoody: The Spruill Gallery and RCD present Matri-ARC Matri-ARC highlights the work of ten Georgia female artists, all at varying stages of their careers. This arc runs through the show as an allegory allowing the viewer to experience each artist at their point in the creative journey. The women ask different questions, seek different answers, and in doing so infuse their work with value, passion and life. All have claimed their own space allowing their work to evolve and flourish, creating a legacy of inspiration. This exhibit is in conjunction with the Taking.Up.Space initiative; a grassroots, female-focused, community of global art exhibitions taking place in May 2022. The movement knits together the talent, capabilities and strength of female artists around the world.
