President's Message Service and SmilesWhat a week! Thanks to USDA Farmers to Families Food Box program, last Thursday we distributed 550 food boxes to local nonprofits and residents of the Oak St./Magnolia area. Thanks to your generosity, Ken Carter “the” King of Pops, and I treated teachers at title one schools to a popsicle. You have never seen so many happy teachers, who asked that I share their thanks with Roswell Rotary. The third time is a charm, and Saturday night we danced the night away at our Holiday/70th Anniversary Fish Fry. It was great to be together again. I am so proud to be a Roswell Rotarian!
This Week's Speaker Memorial Day
Dr. Thomas E. Price, an orthopaedic surgeon, served as the 23rd Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). He brought to the Department a lifetime of service and dedication to advancing the quality of health care in America – both as a physician and policymaker. His first calling was to care for patients. Dr. Price received his Bachelor and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Michigan and completed his General Surgery Internship and Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Emory University. After his training, Dr. Price – a third generation physician following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather – began a solo medical practice in Atlanta, Georgia, which would eventually grow to be one of the largest, non-academic orthopaedic practices in the country, which he led as Chairman of the Board. During his 20+ years as a practicing physician, he also served as Medical Director of the Orthopaedic Clinic at Grady Memorial Hospital as well as an Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine. Committed to promoting positive solutions under principled leadership, Dr. Price remains a fierce advocate for a patient-centered health care system that adheres to six key principles: affordability, accessibility, quality, choices, innovation, and responsiveness. He currently is a Board member for a number of entities in the private and non-profit arena, a consultant or advisor to numerous companies and is a much sought after public speaker. Dr. Price and his wife, Betty, have lived in the Metro-Atlanta area for over 40 years. They attend Johnson Ferry Baptist Church and have one adult son.
