Vote to Approve Officers and Board of Directors for 2020-21
With all that's been going on in the world around us, we have not yet asked you as our members to vote to approve Ardy's Board of Directors for 2020-21. We plan to do that by a show of hands at this Friday's Zoom meeting. Ardy has put together a great board for next year, including several new members. You can view his proposed Board here. [more]
Update on Personal Masks
Last week President Cathie announced that we had 50 masks with Rotary logos for sale - purchased from Metro Atlanta Rotarian Tracey Carothers' business in Dunwoody Village - Big Frog. Masks sold out immediately!
We are considering a new order but that will be based on your interest! Please let me know if you would like to order masks - and how many you might like. If we have enough interest, we will order again ... and may consider a slightly different design. Cost is $10 per mask, or three for $25. [more]

Meet Dr. Jessie Legros
Last Friday, Jessie Legros shared her personal and professional background in our Member Spotlight moment. Jessie has worked at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for nearly 13 years as a senior public health educator, spearheading leadership development programs for emerging public health leaders. She has extensive experience in organizational strategic planning, cultural competence, team building, group facilitation, and workforce development.
Jessie received her doctoral degree in organizational leadership in 2008 from Nova Southeastern University, summa cum laude, and her master of public health from the University of Illinois at Chicago, cum laude, in maternal and child health epidemiology and community health, in 1994. Previously, she worked in academia teaching medical and public health students and conducting public health research. She also founded a cross-cultural consulting firm. [more]
Follow-Up on Last Week's Speaker
Do You Have Remnants of Original Piedmont Forest in Your Backyard?
There was lots of interest when Kathryn Kolb from EcoAddendum spoke to the club last Friday. Atlanta metro was settled and built out after 1821 ⎼ much later than other U.S. and world cities. As a result, we have many more of our native trees left than other large cities. Are those in your neighborhood or backyard. Look for:
- Steep slopes - not farmed, not buildable until now
- Stream corridors - especially with narrow floodplains
- Rocky places - not farmed
- Large tracts, historic properties and memorial sites
- Older neighborhoods – where home were built “to grade” and trees were saved for shade
Ironically, old growth trees can found in urban places – which were protected from widespread logging after the 1870’s. And trees do not have to be large to be old.

Following on the Create Dunwoody! cultural plan, the city is looking for the best opportunities to bring an artful touch to the City’s public spaces, gathering places and projects. We’re starting with a survey to gather ideas from everyone who lives or works in Dunwoody. It only takes about five minutes to complete, and your answers will help the planning team understand the community’s goals and how art projects can support them.
