President's Message
Fun on the Farm

Thanks to all that helped make this such a spectacular day!  And a special thanks to Gary Garrett for opening his farm for our families to enjoy good ole Rotary fellowship.

The food, skeet shooting, 4 wheeling, pumpkin painting and weather could not have been better.  We had a blast!!

This Week's Speaker
Youth Day, A Look Back

For the past 2 years Jeff Leatherman has served as the Director of Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs for the City of Roswell. Jeff has over 20 years of experience in local government and started in the recreation industry as a seasonal lifeguard, ski instructor, summer camp counselor and amateur bingo caller. Jeff has 4 boys ages 7 through 14 and is married to Michelle who is a teacher at Hembree Springs Elementary School. During his off time Jeff enjoys adventures with his family including mountain biking, hiking, camping and anything involving lakes, rivers and creeks. Since moving to Roswell he has attempted to become a fly fisherman but has yet to actually catch a fish.

Digging In the Dirt

Grab your gloves, pruning sheers, blowers, shovels and spray canisters as we give the Heart of Roswell Park some landscaping love.

Located on Canton Street, directly across from Rock' N'  Taco, the park is one of the first seen by visitors to Roswell. Working with Historic Roswell Beautification Committee, we will prune, spray and spread straw to bring the park back to its natural beauty.

Contact Nancy Alterman @ naraa@bellsouth.net or 770-262-6300.

World Polio Day/ Sat. Oct 24th
Pints for Polio - Have one on us!

World Polio Day is a time for Rotarians across the globe to raise awareness about our work to eradicate polio for good. If we stay committed to making progress, polio will be the second human disease ever to be eradicated!

In support of the cause, for every pint sold throughout the day, Gate City and Variant are donating to End Polio Now. Let's support Michael & Pat by bringing a friend and enjoying a brew at their place. This is a daylong event.

Share that you are a Roswell Rotarian and the first one is on us!

Drivers Needed
Meals on Wheels

We had a great response from our September Service Newsletter for Meals on Wheels volunteers. The first training session is Oct. 13th.

In case you missed, 7 MOW route out of the  Roswell center that operate and deliver meals each weekday Monday-Friday. A typical route has anywhere from 4 to 8 stops, so you’re delivering to 4 to 8 seniors, and lasts about 1.5 hours on average. The routes take place right before lunchtime, with most meals being picked up at the center between 10:00 and 11:00am each day.

Most volunteers, whether individuals or groups, sign up to do a route usually once per month.

If interested in delivering meals for this very important program contact Mary Trapp marytrapp@kw.com 770-645-1320

Coat Drive/ Oct 15th & 22nd
Jackets & Coats Needed For NFCC

The weather is cooling down and NFCC is collecting coats to be ready to help those in need stay warm this winter. Bring your gently used coats and jackets to our meeting and June Brown will get them to NFCC. Children’s sizes are the greatest need.

See June at meacert@mindspring.com or 770.642.9000 for more details or to make a donation to this worth while cause.

Adopt A Platoon
Defending Our Freedom

Thanks to Alicia, we have identified 14 local sailors who are deployed on the USS Nimitz in the Persian Gulf. the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Red Sea and USS Ronald Regan in the South China Sea.  The  Nimitz operates  and trains alongside regional and coalition partners, and provides naval aviation support to Operation Inherent Resolve.   The Ronald Regan conducts maritime air defense operations in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific.   The Dwight D. Eisenhower  provides a wide range of flexible mission capabilities, including maritime security operations, expeditionary power projection, crisis response, counter-terrorism, and security cooperation.

From October 1st through Nov. 5th, we will collect supplies to ship 150 goodie boxes to each ship.  Boxes will be packed as part of our Veterans Day program AT OUR NOVEMBER 5TH MEETING.

Click here for the list of needed supplies.  Reach out to Ralph Rowland @ rfrrowland@yahoo.com or 404-641-5671 with questions.  Share the list with family and friends.  This is YOUR chance to support those who are providing regional stability and freedom of the seas.
