Welcome Sandy Springs Rotarians, friends and guests.
So far, this Rotary year has been challenging coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. We thank all who have been able to attend meetings in person and on Zoom. Although our service projects have been limited by the virus we have been able to help school children needing distance learning and for those in our community needing food. We are also doing great with our medical recycling program benefiting seniors. I thank our club members and officers in working hard to hopefully have our club once again achieve “Club of the Year” status.
Visitors are welcome to experience the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs' hospitality and energy. Meetings are typically the 1st, 2nd & 4th Mondays. Lunch is served at noon and the 1 hour program begins at 12:15. Hilton Perimeter Suites, 6120 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
Reserve a spot by going to our website at www.sandyspringsrotary.org. Join your fellow professionals, community and business leaders, and learn how Rotary can benefit your future. Experience Rotary Making Things Happen in Sandy Springs!
On Monday, June 28, Christie Simons from the Angel Alliance will be talking to us about providing consistent support to the foster care community.
Christie is a counselor by training, holding her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Richmond Graduate University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She currently works as the director of a university counseling center and has also served as adjunct professor of psychology and program manager of a medication-assisted addiction treatment center. She enjoys leading teams and believes strongly in pursuing all things with excellence. Christie is also a certified Mental Health Trainer and has had the opportunity to speak, present, and train at many local and national conferences.
Christie and her husband adopted their daughter through the foster system three years ago. Six years ago, their daughter was one of the over 5,000 children in the foster system in the Atlanta-area. Today, she is a happy, flourishing, adopted, and incredibly loved little girl. Christie’s desire to launch Atlanta Angels was born out of the pain of the knowledge that her story is an exception, and the call to change the story. Her vision to see every foster parent supported and every child in foster care know that they are valued, loved, and worthy in the metro-Atlanta area.
Christie enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends. She especially enjoys watching her daughter at Tae Kwon Do, doing crafts, going on bike rides, playing games, going to Braves games, doing yoga, wine tasting and baking. She believes wholeheartedly in always taking a holistic view of people, that everyone has a story to tell, and that we need to change our idea of self-care from an escape from life to building a life that we do not need to escape from.
This meeting can be attended in-person at the Hilton Suites.
6120 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, NE Sandys Springs Georgia
The meeting begins at 12:15pm and ends at 1:15pm
