Learn more today about Oghenemaro Innocent-Otolo - better known to us as Maro - who joined us from Nigeria last August through the Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP). She will introduce us to Nigeria, her family and culture in Friday's presentation, and tell us more about herself. You can join us in person at LeMeridien or via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86202979419

Bounds Garden (the traffic island across from the Dunwoody Library) needs a little loving care and Ranger Fred Bounds could use your help and fellowship this Saturday, January 15, at 9 am. It may be a little cold (understatement), so don't dress like the August crew pictured here - but the job shouldn't take but an hour or so. Bring your garden gloves and a smile!
Call it "save the forest" or "free the ferns" or whatever you might, a crew of Dunwoody Rotarians worked hard last Saturday morning at the Dunwoody Nature Center. Led by Cathie Brumfield, our brave Rotarians included Jennifer Shumway, Rick Otness, Jim Riticher, Bill Kelly and Jackie Cuthbert. Staying warm in the bitter cold just seemed to inspire the crew to work harder - battling against invasive ivy and privet. Thanks to our efforts, the ferns and tiny trees will breathe easier.
Think about joining us next time - Saturday, February 12 at 9 am.
The Georgia Laws of Life Essay contest is coming up this winter/spring, with thousands of essays from high school students around the state. Our club has been a long-time and enthusiastic contest sponsor - we have provided prize money, served on the Board and judged essays since Dunwoody Rotarian George Stewart was at the center of this Georgia Rotary initiative. As a sponsor, we have the opportunity to judge the contest - in a window that starts mid-February and runs through April 1. You can be a school judge, a state judge, or both. Judging - and training to be a judge - all takes place online, and takes a few hours of your time.
Sign up at Laws of Life.
District Governor Mary has invited us to pop-in for a Jolly Holiday in SanDestin full of inspiration, fellowship, fun and learning. It's scheduled to take place April 28 to May 1 at the Grand SanDestin at Miramar Beach. Here's the inside scoop: Register by January 15th for best prices and prize eligibility! [more]
Editor's Note: This month is Vocational Service Month for Rotary International - and in the District Newsletter, District Governor Mary talks about using our vocations, talents and skills to serve others - through a club service project or a Rotary Action Group. One of the great examples of a Rotary Action Group is the Rotary Action Group for Family Health and AIDS Prevention (RFHA) founded by our own Marion Bunch. In a recent article on the Rotary Service Blog, reporter Sneha Saloni talked to our own Laura Kann about RFHA and Laura's Rotary journey. Marion shared the article with me, and you can read the story by linking to it here in our January District Newsletter.
Please save the date to join the Rotary Club of Dunwoody at our First Annual Golf Classic on May 16, 2022 at St. Marlo Country Club. Our partner for this event is the Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia - The Longest Day Program.
Share the date with your friends and look for information soon about more ways you can help. Contact Bob O’Brien at rsobrien111@gmail.com for questions - or to volunteer to help!
And enjoy the photo of one of our favorite golfers - PDG and President Emeritus Bill Mulkey - thanks to Lang Wooddy for sharing the photo.
Here's a way to keep up with all that's happening with the Rotary Club of Dunwoody. If you would like to add an event - or add a story to the bulletin, send an email to Jackie Cuthbert at cuthbert@mindspring.com by Tuesday evening.
