FAMILY OF ROTARY

Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com

President's Message

Happy Thanksgiving!

This last weekend Amy and I joined Hal Schlenger for a walk with a Doc. This is a nationwide program started in 2005 and although the turnout was small we enjoyed our time walking the trails of Vickery Creek.  Some of this hike was climbing some challenging hills amongst the rocks and tree roots.

One of the participants was an older woman named Virginia. She was not in the best shape, and I truly didn’t know if she would be able to finish the 3.5 mile hike. The group did a good job of pausing to wait for her at some scenic spots. When we finished the walk, Virginia shared how much she appreciated the walk and community support from Rotary. She wanted to push herself and she said she will be back to do more. And then she shared her age, of 74.

So what the group did for Virginia was a beautiful, albeit small, thing. As the story goes, when a person is walking along the beach, sees a starfish, stops to pick it up and returns it to the water, a person watching this says ‘that won’t make a difference.’ And the response is that it won’t save the world, but it meant the world to that starfish. Saturday was a true Rotary moment. Thanks Hal.

No meeting this week.   Enjoy time with loved ones and Happy Thanksgiving!  I am truly thankful for my Rotary family.

Upcoming Project - Bulloch Hall Cleanup

In cooperation with the City of Roswell, Roswell Rotary is putting together a cleanup day on  the grounds of Roswell landmark Bulloch Hall.  Stay tuned for future updates and a specific date to be announced.  Let's grab our tools and gather and help repay the City of Roswell in some small way for the use of the Gym and kitchen facilities that we enjoy each week.  Please contact Matt Millard to let us know you are interested and we will forward you a volunteer waiver.  Thank you!

Become a Paul Harris Fellow
November is Rotary Foundation Month

Most of you know that November is Rotary Foundation Month.

It’s during this month that we put a push in the Roswell Rotary to have everyone in our club contribute to the Rotary Foundation. What you may not know is that our club will match your donation up to $300 to help you reach the next Paul Harris Fellow level. This year, if you were within $600.00 of the next PHF level, you would have received an email from Don Horton, Roswell Foundation Chair, outlining the amount you needed to reach that next level, the amount you needed to give to get the club matching funds. There were 63 individuals who were within $600.00. Out of those, 15 people stepped up and received the matching funds. Additionally, three individuals wanted to become Major Donors and went well beyond the match to do so. We plan to honor all the Paul Harris Fellows, and Major Donors in January of 2022.

Every Rotarian, Every Year

Another push for the Rotary Foundation is what we call EREY, which means Every Rotarian, Every Year. During this period, we ask all Roswell Rotarians to give at least $25.00 to the Rotary Foundation. In every case, to make is easy, you can simply have the contribution billed to your Roswell Rotary Account.

End Polio NOW donations count toward Paul Harris level

It should be noted that any contributions you make to the “End Polio Now” campaign does count toward your PHF status. In fact, you can designate any or all of your contribution to “End Polio Now” and every penny will go toward your Paul Harris Fellow level.

Why contribute to the Rotary Foundation?

The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. Since it was founded more than 100 years ago, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion on life-changing, sustainable projects. With your help, we can make lives better in your community and around the world. The mission The Rotary Foundation helps Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.

What impact can one donation have?

• For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio. • $50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness. • $500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.

Please donate to the Foundation during November!

So will you please consider giving to the Rotary Foundation during the month of November. Our club benefits from many of the grants given by The Foundation.
