Past Program
New Horizons Dixie Land Band

January 24th, 2022 The New Horizons Dixie Land Band treated the Sandy Springs Rotary Club to a performance of many of their most popular Dixie Land Jazz hits.

Dixieland, sometimes referred to as traditional jazz, is a style of jazz based on the music that developed in New Orleans at the start of the 20th century.

The Atlanta New Horizons Band, founded in April 1999, provides opportunities for adults to play music again after they had been active in school programs and then inactive for a long period. Music playing may also have been interrupted due to professional or other life circumstances. ANHB provides the opportunity for these folks to renew their interest and passion. They perform at a variety of venues such as churches, retirement homes, festivals etc.

The Dixieland Band sector of the Atlanta New Horizons Band was formed when six members, including our very own Bill Snellings, bonded over their mutual interest in Dixieland Jazz. Band Members include:

  • Bob Fedorchak - From Youngstown, Ohio playing tenor saxophone
  • Bill Snellings - From Atlanta, Georgia playing the trumpet
  • Ken Leddick - From Georgia playing the tuba
  • Otis Brown - From South Carolina playing percussion
  • Sunny Mayfield - From Atlanta, Georgia playing the Clarinet
  • Ron Gilmore - From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania playing the Trombone

Some of the many popular Dixie Land Jazz songs that were played included:

  •  "Down by the Riverside"
  • "Five Foot Two" AKA "Has Anyone Seen My Gal"
  • "Bill Bailey"
  • "Hello Dolly"
  • "Tin Roof Blues"

Thank you for the great performance Atlanta New Horizons Dixieland Band!
