In This Bulletin ...

Most important, note that we are meeting at Smoke Rise Country Club in Tucker this Friday with other clubs from the DeKalb Rotary Council. Then read up to learn more about how you can help with our May 16 Golf Tournament, the Dunwoody Arts Festival and Rotary Youth Exchange. Then read just a bit farther to learn about a Global Grant project in Brazil that we helped make happen - and check out the calendar for the next few weeks!

This Week's Meeting
DeKalb Rotary Council Breakfast In-Person at Smoke Rise Country Club in Tucker

This week, we will join the clubs of the DeKalb Rotary Council at Smoke Rise Country Club to honor Teachers of the Year, as well as Rotarians who have gone "above and beyond" to serve their clubs and the community. Festivities begin at 7:30 am at Smokerise Country Club, 4900 Chedworth Drive, Tucker, GA 30087. There will be no meeting at LeMeridien and no Zoom option this week.

Dunwoody High School teacher Kevin Cameron (Deb Cameron's husband) will be our Teacher of the Year this year.

Each club will present a "Show Rotary Cares" award to a deserving Rotarian, in honor of our own PDG Bill Mulkey, and the Council will honor one Rotarian with the "You Are the Key" award in honor of PDG Bob Grant. Both Bill and Bob were instrumental in starting and supporting the Council for years. They are pictured here at one of the DeKalb Rotary Council's golf tournaments.

Golf Tournament Update
Teeing Up Ways You Can Help Make Our Inaugural Golf Tournament a Success

On May 16, the Rotary Club of Dunwoody will host the FORE! the Memories golf tournament at St. Marlo CC benefiting The Longest Day program of Alzheimer's of Georgia. We want every Dunwoody Rotarian to have a part in this event. For now, we're focused on the sponsorships; watch for volunteer opportunities soon - we will provide a list of volunteer opportunities and ask you to sign up in advance to help.

There are still opportunities to be a SPONSOR or find a Platinum or Gold sponsor or be one of 18 hole sponsors (we have 8 and are looking for 10 more). You also can participate as a contributing sponsor or a donating sponsor - at $250 or $100 respectively. Contact Rick Wood on sponsors at sdoowrm@gmail.com for more details.

You can learn more, contribute and register to golf at www.rcdgolftournment.com. Contact Hoshi Daruwalla with any website questions at hd@phirozsil.com

Sign up on the website and pay via credit card or make checks payable to DRCF Golf Tournament.

Service Opportunity
Dunwoody Arts Festival May 6-8

Thanks for giving us a great start for sign-ups to help at the 2022 Dunwoody Art Festival this Mother's Day Weekend ... May 6-8. RCD has been an important part of the Arts Festival every year since its start 12 years ago. Once again, our support for this significant community event will be instrumental in the event’s success and will give Dunwoody Rotarians a unique opportunity for community and prospective new member outreach.

We have three “asks” of you at this time:

  1. If you are helping with Artist Check-in, please send Kathy Brandt your T-shirt size.
  2. Please help spread the word. Invite  Rotarians, friends, family, co-workers and/or prospective members to join us. This event is truly a significant event. It is fun. It is a great opportunity to experience “Rotary In The Community and In Action” And, our volunteer service really is appreciated by artists and festival organizers, who give us public recognition for our volunteer effort  along with a complimentary, well-located exhibit space.
  3. For additional sign-ups, please send Kathy name and contact information.

Note:  It takes hundreds of volunteers to stage this event, I have listed the artist set-up jobs as our top priority.  We can handle as many Rotarians and Friends of Rotary as we can identify.

Rotary Youth Exchange Needs Your Help!

Rotary Youth Exchange is the program that hosts and sends high school students to another country for a school year. Our club will host a female student for the 2022-23 school year (August - May). We need host families!  The only requirement is that the hosts live in the Dunwoody High School school district.  The commitment is for about three months - we are looking for hosts for August - early November and early November - February.  Please contact Deb Cameron if you have interest, a recommendation of another family, or any questions!  dsc630@gmail.com.

Additional help: If you or anyone you know is a native speaker of French, Thai or Swedish, Rotary Youth Exchange could use your help for our outbound students at their language camp on April 16.  Please let Deb know if you (or someone you know) can help!

Thank you for your support of Rotary Youth Exchange!

Our Rotary Foundation at Work
Dunwoody Joins Alpharetta to Make a Difference in Brazil

This Monday, 3/21, was World Down Syndrome Day (Down persons have a third instance of chromosome #21.  Clever, eh?). Notably, it’s ALSO the day that Rotary Club of Alpharetta and Rotary Club Pelotas Oeste in Brazil celebrated approval of a $70,000 Rotary International Global Grant to fund special education and training for Down persons, their families and support groups in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. God’s timing is excellent!

The Rotary Club of Dunwoody is a partner to this project, along with Peachtree City, Roswell, Stone Mountain, Dunwoody, Atlanta Brazil AND D7780 clubs Bath and Yarmouth, and five more Rotary clubs in Brazil - for a total of 15 clubs and three districts!
