FAMILY OF ROTARY
Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com
"The List"
For those who were at last week's
meeting, we were treated to a great presentation by Past President Maurice
Hilliard where he tapped into our thoughts of influential individuals from all
areas of leadership and asked the question, who's list are you on for being an
influence in their lives? As Rotarians, it's our job to leave this place on
"The LIST" of many.
During
the course of the year we have heard many guest speakers talk about the growing
need to address the problems associated with mental health disorders.
This topic has hit home with many past and present Rotarians. This
week we hosted our first Behavioral Health Advisory Council meeting with Dr. Breshears and his WellStar staff to provide constructive feedback on what is
needed in the Roswell community leading to a successful awareness and education
campaign for our school aged children. This group included numerous
Rotarians, social workers from schools, leadership from our NGO's, behavioral
health specialist and the Mayor of Roswell. The group provided
constructive dialog on what is needed in our community to help those in
need. With this information, our partners at WellStar will develop tools
to take into our community to help curb the spread of mental health disorders.
It's
great to be a Rotarian.
Our
program this week is "Lunches for Learning":
Lunches for Learning exists to break the cycle of poverty in rural Honduras by providing a healthy lunch to school children every school day at their school; thereby allowing these children to stay in school so they can complete their education and enter the workforce as literate individuals.
Phil Dodson joined the Lunches for Learning team as Executive Director in 2016. His previous experience included serving as Development Director for North Georgia United Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministries in Atlanta from 2006 to 2016. As a 1986 graduate of LaGrange College in LaGrange, Georgia, Phil began his career in higher education, serving three different colleges in the Admission and Financial Aid arena. In 1997, he transitioned to the credit and financial services industry where he served in Client Relations roles with Total System Services in Columbus, Georgia, and Transunion in Atlanta before returning to the nonprofit sector in 2006 with North Georgia Camp & Retreat Ministries. Phil and his wife Tracy live in Cleveland, Georgia. They have three adult children: Megan, age 26; Mia, age 23; and Jimmy, age 21.
The
Lunches for Learning Team
June of 2019 was the
first time the entire Lunches for Learning entire team had been together in Honduras in quite a while. It seemed an appropriate time for a team photo. Very special team!

Membership Needs YOUR help!
Have you ever heard of the
expression “two good people are better than one?” It’s the idea
that a second person’s advice can be very useful. That’s exactly what we
need from you. On Thursday, February 10th at Houck’s Bar
and Grill, please join us to discuss ideas for reaching new members.
Specifically, we want to you to share ideas with us as to how we can spread the
word on our three new membership classifications.
As you recall this past Fall, we
added a “Young Professional Membership,” “Corporate Membership,” and a
“Non-profit Membership. Our challenge has been sharing these new
classifications with prospective members. Thus, we need your creativity and
ideas!
Please join us and share your
thoughts.

Roswell Rotary is mobilizing!!! We need your help at 9 am on Saturday, February 12th and February 19th at Bulloch Hall. Let's help the City clean up the white rail fencing.
Feb. 12: We need pressure washers, hoses, and light carpentry work (to replace any fence boards not worth saving). We also need folks and tools to help prune back vegetation off of the fence.
Feb. 19: We will be back to paint the fencing on February 19 and need volunteers to help us spruce up the fence.
Let's help repay the City of Roswell in some small way for the use of the Gym and kitchen facilities that we enjoy each week.
This is an opportunity for you or someone on your staff, or someone you are interested in recruiting to Roswell Rotary.
Our last gathering again drew a crowd from the Atlanta Metro, Dunwoody, Peachtree City, Roswell, Sandy Springs and Tucker clubs. While it had similarities to other networking events, you knew that attendees honored the integrity of the 4 Way Test!
This is what Paul Harris formed Rotary for 1905. Professionals with diverse
backgrounds could exchange ideas, form meaningful, lifelong friendships, and conduct business together. Paul Harris was networking well before the term “networking” was used to describe connecting people in order to build a business network.
While Rotary is about "Service Above Self," there is a growing place for networking in Rotary, particularly for those responsible for generating revenue.

Fellow Rotarians the need for blood donations are at critical mass. The demand is outpacing the current supply…sounds familiar doesn’t it...”supply chain” issues are everywhere even with blood!
Our own Roger Wise had his own battle with prostate cancer several years ago. Roger states, “I was put on the blood list if I needed blood which made me feel secure. Fortunately for me I responded to chemotherapy and the pinpoint radiation that was provided so the blood was never needed. However, that moment encouraged me to begin to be a regular blood donor. Please, I encourage you to give because you never know when you or a close family or friend might need it. Especially with supplies so low right now we need to do our part and give or get someone to give on 2/22/22 and live our motto of Service above Self!"
Surprise guests are going to be popping in and of course Gate City is offering a pint for a pint.
Click here to reserve 60 minutes on Two's-day Feb 22nd to donate.
For more information, contact DarrellBartlett or HalSchlenger
As always, we want to thank Pat Rains and Michael Curling for the current and past help saving lives in our community.
