As I assembled bulletins over the last two weeks, I found myself being thankful for the great Dunwoody traditions that come together this time of year:
All this work is made possible by the generosity of you, your family and friends. Read more here about this week's opportunities to serve and to support the fundraising efforts that support what we do to make a difference.
There's no Friday morning meeting this week. Instead, we will gather with the Rotary Club of Brookhaven at the Dunwoody Country Club for our annual holiday luncheon! Festivities begin at 11:00 am with time for fellowship - and holiday music on the piano by our own June Wise. We'll be seated at about 11:30 am - join in some carols, lunch and some words of celebration. And of course, we'll make a presentation to the Marines joining us as we support Toys for Tots. Don't forget your unwrapped toys!
The holiday luncheon is a long-time Dunwoody tradition - offering a great opportunity to catch up with each other as the holidays begin. We're excited to be sharing it this year with the Rotary Club of Brookhaven.
Join us this Saturday morning for another long-time Dunwoody tradition, as we prepare 1,175 books for delivery to Dresden and Kingsley Elementary students. This year, we'll gather at 9 am at Carter Stout's office - Stout Kaiser LLC, 4675 N. Shallowford Road, Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30338.
We'll have coffee and breakfast treats ready! Volunteers always have a fun time with this project. Bring yourself, family and friends to prepare books for our local Title 1 elementary schools - with help from the schools, we have identified fun books to help kids who are just learning English. On Saturday, we will add translation bookmarks and book plates to each (so parents know it was a gift from the Rotary Club of Dunwoody). We welcome as many volunteers as possible!
Please let Jack Sparks know if you can help by emailing jsparks@mosquitojoe.com
There's one more opportunity to support Dunwoody's Whiskey Raffle which in turn supports our Dunwoody Charitable Fund - by buying or encouraging others to buy tickets for Whiskey Raffle #3 - for a bottle of Blanton’s Gold (shown on the right) - a higher proofed version of Blanton’s that is only available in International markets and duty-free outlets (if you are lucky).
You can read more about this offering - and buy tickets at https://whiskey-raffle.com/! Tickets are $30 each - the whiskey is valued at $400. Help us reach our goal of 150 tickets sold (we're at 98 today) before the December 15 Thirsty Thursday drawing!
Put the date on your calendar now and contact Raymond Mesa if you'd like to volunteer for the Mardi Gras committee!
We are planning now for the 2023 GRSP Leadership Weekend - scheduled for February 10-12. A signature Dunwoody Rotary event for the last 20+ years, this weekend provides many opportunities to meet some special college students from around the world - here for a one-year cultural exchange as part of a program that is unique to Georgia. And you'll meet Rotarians from many of the clubs who help us host this weekend.
At the moment, we are looking for host families willing to provide bed, breakfast and a bit of transportation between Friday night and Sunday morning. We try to keep the students in groups of two to four, but we welcome your participation even if you can only take one student - or want to volunteer with some of the many weekend activities - from a group service project to Friday night social events to Saturday night suppers, the Sunday morning Shark Tank competition, or helping with logistics during the weekend sessions.
Contact Jackie Cuthbert if you'd like to talk about the best ways for you to help with the leadership weekend. And watch for more about an upcoming planning meeting.
Here are few key reminders about upcoming events:
