We have moved the Friday meeting online connection from Zoom to Facebook Live. When you can't join in person, join us at https://www.facebook.com/DunwoodyRotary.
Join us this Friday, March 10 to hear the latest about the City of Dunwoody straight from Mayor Lynn Deutsch. You can join us live at Le Meridien or at https://www.facebook.com/DunwoodyRotary.
Beginning in 2011, Lynn Deutsch served as a Dunwoody City Councilmember and was elected Mayor in November 2019. After graduating from the University of Texas with bachelor’s degrees in Government and Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin, she earned a master’s degree in City Planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a graduate certificate in Gerontology from Georgia State University. Join master gardener Cathie Brumfield at the Dunwoody Nature Center this Saturday to do some "light work in the forest" and enjoy some fellowship. We'll be gathering at 9:00 am; bring your work gloves. Cathie has been by to visit recently and says our work area is looking so much better thanks to everyone's work last year. Hope to see you Saturday. Contact Cathie at 404 668 6693 if you have any questions.
As you know, we are well underway in our plans to host our 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament, which will take place on May 15, 2023, at the prestigious St. Marlo Country Club in Duluth, GA. The headline charity for this event is "The Longest Day" which supports the Alzheimer's Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding for Alzheimer's disease research. The tournament also benefits many of our efforts in the community, including the USO, Kingsley School Thanksgiving Harvest baskets, Dresden Elementary, CAC-Community Assistance Center, and Malachi’s Kitchen. You are in for a special treat at the end of March - our annual gathering of the Rotarians from the eight Rotary Clubs of DeKalb County. We will honor Rotarians from those clubs for their achievements, and recognize teachers and their role in making a difference in our communities. Plan to join us on March 31 at Georgia Piedmont Technical College DeKalb Conference Center, 495 N Indian Creek Dr., Clarkston, GA 30021. Festivities begin at 7:00 am.
As part of the program, we have an amazing speaker: Paige Buzbee Pushkin, Executive Director of the Georgia Foundation for Public Education (GFPE) - an organization created by the state legislature with the mission of supporting “educational excellence for Georgia’s students.” This week Paige shared with us that she participated in a Rotary cultural exchange program in Argentina about 11 years ago, and is excited to be joining us to celebrate "Service Above Self."
Paige will be introduced by our own Honorary Member Buzz Law. Mark your calendar for March 31 and plan to celebrate with us! Note: This takes the place of Dunwoody's March 31 meeting.
District Training Assembly will be held on March 25, 2023 at the Historic Iron Works (Convention and Trade Center) in Columbus, Georgia. District Training Assembly is a chance for club officers, committee chairs and assistant governors to further develop leadership skills and refine strategies to achieve their goals. All Rotarians who accept key club leadership roles are encouraged to attend the District Training Assembly and Dunwoody typically has a good-size group in attendance. .
District Training Assembly is not just for club officers; it's where club officers, chairs, emerging leaders, and ALL Rotarians can learn more about what Rotary has to offer. If you would like to attend, please contact Jack Sparks, our President Elect.
