FAMILY OF ROTARY
Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com
Steve Holman has been broadcasting the Atlanta Hawks since the mid-1980’s. When he started Dominique Wilkins was the team star and Mike Fratello was the coach. It was the days of Spud Webb winning slam dunk contests and facing tough teams in Boston, Detroit and Chicago.
Steve has called games as the main play-by-play man for 34 years without missing a game. He’s seen good basketball…bad basketball…all the stars from Dominique to Michael Jordan to LeBron James. He’s watched 10 head coaches pace the sidelines…wait make that 11…as the Hawks changed coaches again last week.
How will this season play out? Will Atlanta make another run with an interim coach as they did two years ago? Come with your questions and let’s hear what someone who has seen the high and lows of Atlanta Hawks basketball thinks.
The "Voice of the Hawks," Georgia Sports Hall of Famer, Atlanta Sports Hall of Famer and Georgia Radio Hall of Famer Steve Holman is in his 38th season, and has never missed a Hawks' regular season or playoff radio broadcast, a span of 2,827 games. His play-by-play streak, which began in March of 1989, hit game number 2,500 in the Hawks’ 2018-19 opener at New York on October 17, 2018. He has broadcast Hawks games in five different decades.
The five-time Georgia Sportscaster of the Year (2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021) by the National Sports Media Association, Holman also took home three consecutive Gabby Awards from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters (2015-17) and was inducted into the organization's Hall of Fame in 2017.Holman has announced Hawks games around the globe, including contests from Russia, England, Puerto Rico and Canada, and has been a part of several notable historical calls, including the night Dominique Wilkins became the team’s all-time scoring leader, Lenny Wilkens’ record-breaking 939th career win and the Hawks' Eastern Conference Finals trips in 2015 and 2021.
He has been a fixture on Atlanta radio since 1980 when he arrived to work on Falcons football and Atlanta Chiefs soccer. Along with his numerous awards for sports reporting, Holman has also won the Georgia Associated Press Award. Holman's son, Scott, and wife Amy, are the parents of Holman's grandchildren, Connor, Caitlyn and Collier Steven. His son, Steve Jr., passed away after a short illness on January 19, 2018. The Steve Holman Jr. Media Award endowment was established at Woodward Academy in Atlanta in his memory (Woodward.edu/Holman).

In honor of Fat Tuesday, last week the After Hours club had a Mardi Gras party at HOLA! Taqueria & Bar. Laughs were had and King Cake was enjoyed. The best part of the evening was collecting treats to donate to STAR House's Snack Drive. It was a perfect night of service and fun!
Service opportunities are in full bloom for After Hours!
After Hours is set to volunteer at the Unity Garden at the Chattahoochee Nature Center on two upcoming Saturday's: March 11 and April 29. The shifts start at 9 a.m. and go until Noon. Did you know? The Unity Garden grows fresh produce to be donated to the food pantry at North Fulton Community Charities. Fresh vegetables and greens are delivered once or twice a week.

This is a joint event sponsored by the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and supported through Roswell Rotary, Trout Unlimited, Keep North Fulton Beautiful and several other organizations. In 2022, more than 2,300 volunteers collected almost 60 tons of trash across the Chattahoochee.
We need walkers, waders and floaters to clean up the “Hooch” along Riverside Road, including the trails, the riverbank and possibly the islands.
To volunteer you must:

It's that time again when we're asking for a Pint of Blood for a Pint of Beer! That's right please get in touch with your friends, family members and work associates and have them sign up for our upcoming Rotary Blood Drive at Gate City Brewery on March 27th.
We're also letting you know that you can put the power to save lives in the palm of your hand by downloading the QR Code above and having the app on your mobile. Whether you sign up or your friends and family members sign up, this mobile app will allow you to schedule appointments easier. The more intriguing element of the app is its ability to track your blood and the Roswell Rotary Team's blood each time you give. The impact shows how many lives are saved every time a Roswell Rotary Team member gives and the cool thing is you don't have to be a member of Rotary to be on the TEAM!!
Please consider participating in this endeavor so we can continue to impact lives here and throughout the state with the gift of Roswell Rotary Blood. You are going to feel great about it...we guarantee it!
Click here to reserve a space March 27th to donate. For more information, contact Darrell Bartlett 770-883-7757 or Hal Schlenger 770-335-0077
As always, we want to thank Pat Rains and Michael Curling for the current and past help saving lives in our community.
It’s Saturday afternoon at District Conference. We’ve had more time at the beach, walking the trails, playing golf, or just relaxing. We’ve made sure the Hospitality Suite is well stocked for the last night of the Conference. We’ve donned our red parrot shirts to prepare to greet the incoming District Governor Andre' Marria at an outdoor reception.
But wait…there is a Roswell Rotary tradition that must be done before anything else can happen. It’s time for the ritual tossing in the pool of our President-Elect. What great fun it will be to see Alex take the plunge!
