Year-End Celebration Takes Place Tomorrow, June 15

Tomorrow marks the end of a great year under President Jennifer's leadership and the start of our 40th year under the leadership of Jack Sparks. Our year-end celebration at the Dunwoody Country Club starts at 5:30 pm - with an opportunity to honor some special Rotarians, enjoy each other's company and welcome in our new leadership team.

If you aren't sure whether you signed up, give Louise Barden a call.

Speaker Alert: Invite Your Friends
Next Week: Dave Ragone, Atlanta Falcons Offensive Coach

Plan on joining us for a very special speaker on Friday, June 23 - Dave Ragone, offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. Bring your friends too – especially people you think might be interested in Rotary!

Dave joined the Falcons in this role in 2021. In 2022, Atlanta offense led the NFL in fewest penalties, finished third in the NFL in rushing yards per game and 10th in third-down conversion rate. Atlanta also had the third-highest successful play rate on rushing attempts, based on EPA, at 45.1 percent. The Falcons rushing attack averaged 74.5 more rushing yards per game in 2022 than it did in 2021, resulting in the largest one-season improvement by any team since at least 2001.

Before joining the Falcons, Dave served as an assistant coach for the Chicago Bears, Washington Redskins and Tennessee Titans.

Dave played college football at the University of Louisville, where he   went 27–11 as a starting quarterback, including an 11–1 mark in 2001. Ragone finished his college years as Louisville's second all-time leading passer. He was a three-time All-American honorable mention and three-time Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year. Dave played in the NFL and NFL Europe for four seasons.

Building on Our 40-Year Legacy
Celebrating Our Partnership with Rotaract Club of Atlanta

Editor's Note: As we move through our 40th year as the Rotary Club of Dunwoody, we have a legacy of people with a passion and energy for service that have allowed us to make a difference in the lives of individuals, in our community and the world. We plan to celebrate the people and partnerships that have contributed to who we are today and offer great potential for the difference we can make in the future. We are starting with our partnership with the Rotaract Club of Atlanta because they have some special guests joining us at our year-end celebration this Thursday.

When the Rotary Club of Dunwoody sponsored the Rotaract Club of Atlanta during Laura Kann's year as our President (2011-12), we had great hope for what we could accomplish together ... and we have certainly come to rely on these young business professionals for some of our signature projects. Just this year, Rotaractors have played a major role in the:

  • GRSP Leadership Weekend ... where Rotaract plans and leads Sunday morning's Shark Tank Competition and contributes to other parts of the weekend
  • Dunwoody Arts Festival ... as part of the crew helping the artists with set-up and breakdown
  • Special Olympics Basketball Skills Day

All this in addition to the projects that Rotaract takes on its own and their joint projects with the Rotary Club of Metro Atlanta. The Club has provided leadership at the district level too, and Past President Alicia Rodriguez was on a panel at last month's Rotary Convention in Australia addressing the partnership between Rotary and Rotaract (pictured with Lorri and Jackie above).

This Thursday night, Rotaract President Alex West, President Elect Ryan Maguire and Rotaractor Helen Gunn will be joining our end-of-year celebration. Take time to visit with them and thank them for their commitment to service! We have great friends in the Rotaract Club of Atlanta and look forward to a long future!
