FAMILY OF ROTARY
Our membership cares deeply about the needs and concerns of our members. We don’t want to miss an opportunity to reach out in friendship when such concerns arise. The chairperson of this committee is Lynn Dunn and all news should be directed to her at lynn.dunn@rmcpa.com
In less than two weeks, Roswell Rotary and the City of Roswell will present the 24th Roswell Remembers Memorial Day Ceremony. This ceremony is one of the best attended Memorial Day observances in the Southeast and takes a huge effort by our club to host.
This year we need more volunteers for setup, day of the event tasks, and take down than in years past. For years we benefited from people who had to perform community service to help with both setup and take down, but for some reason, they are not available to us this year.
Want to volunteer - Please let one of our Memorial Day committee members know including Dave Young (Chair), Elwyn Gaissert, or Ron Cowan.
John F. King was sworn in as Georgia’s Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner by Governor Brian Kemp on July 1, 2019, becoming the first Hispanic statewide official in state history. He was elected to a full four-year term on November 8, 2022.
Before becoming Commissioner, King spent his career in law enforcement, beginning as an Atlanta police officer in 1985 and culminating as Chief of Police for the City of Doraville. While at the Atlanta Police Department, he worked various assignments including Red Dog, Organized Crime/Intelligence, and received the Chief’s Blue Star in 1987 for being injured in the line of duty as a result of a criminal attack with a firearm. His career also includes assignments to both FBI and DEA as a Task Force Agent.
In President Becky Stone’s Rotary year 2018-19 Rotary’s theme was “Be The Inspiration”. Roswell Rotary was inspired to continue supporting Youth in our community through many programs and events including the Roswell High School Construction Program. We won a competitive grant from District 6900 which funded over $10,000 worth of construction tools for this RHS program. And to top it off, we hosted our RI President Barry Rassin and his wife from the Bahamas in maybe the largest Roswell Rotary meeting ever.
Come hear more about what we accomplished in Becky’s year 2018-19.
The 24th Roswell Remembers Memorial Day Ceremony will be held Monday, May 29th at 11:00 A.M. at Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill Street.
A joint effort with the City of Roswell, grounds open at 10:00 A.M. with displays and music provided by Roswell New Horizons Band. The program will include a military ceremony, presentation of colors, the national anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, POW/MIA tribute and laying of the wreath.
Sunny K. Park, a native of South Korea, is the guest speaker. Mr. Park has served as Commissioner of the White House Advisory Commission, Vice Chairman of Georgia Ports Authority, along with non-profits’ boards including Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation and USO Georgia. He is a 2000 USO Patriot Award Recipient and named as one of the most influential Atlantans. None of this would have been possible without the support of the US Military where he as a young child benefited.
At the conclusion of the program, lunch may be purchased through food trucks, Tres Jardines, Eggroll Boyz, and Patty Wagon located on the grounds.
Contact Past President Dave Young, Committee Chair at nfultonpt@juno.com with questions. This is a great opportunity for ALL Roswell Rotarians to serve those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today.
Roswell Rotary Club and the City of Roswell would like to thank our Hometown Hero Sponsors for their generous contributions to the 2023 Roswell Remembers Memorial Day Ceremony.
