GRSP Leadership Weekend
Welcome International Students to Dunwoody - February 9-11,2024

The weekend of February 9-11, 2024, we will welcome 40+ scholars from the Georgia Rotary Student Program to Dunwoody! We have students from all over the world and invite you to be part of the weekend in any way you can.

First and foremost, we could use your help in hosting students - the host provides beds to sleep in on Friday and Saturday. breakfast early Saturday and Sunday mornings, and transportation to and from the Dunwoody Annex on Shallowford. This year, we're inviting all our host families and volunteers to join us for pizza and game night at the Annex on Friday. Saturday night dinners will be on your own with your students. Bring your favorite game to share!

On Friday afternoon, students will pack 10,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger. Saturday, they hear about the Civil Rights Movement, consider what their own legacy might be, and participate in a Courageous Leadership discussion. And Sunday, they'll be in competition as they design practical, focused service projects that could make a difference in the world.

Co-chairs Jackie Cuthbert and Meredith Morris need your help - we need another 5-6 host families, and people to help at various times in the weekend set-up, food and logistics.  We're having a planning meeting Thursday night, January 11, at the Dunwoody Annex at 6:30 pm and would love to have you there.

To volunteer for the weekend, please see Meredith or Jackie, or contact Jackie Cuthbert at 770-597-1183 or via email at cuthbert@mindspring.com.

Help Make FORE! The Memories a Success

We have kicked off our sponsor campaign for the 2024 FORE! the Memories Golf Tournament to be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 at St. Marlo Country Club.  The website is live and ready for sponsor and golfer sign up - you and anyone interested can visit our Fore! the Memories site. Proceeds benefit the Alzheimer's Association The Longest Day initiative and also raise money for the Dunwoody Rotary Charitable Fund that makes so much of our work in the community possible.

Dottie Toney has agreed to head up our after-tournament auction this year. If you have trips, wine, artwork or other items you'd like to donate, contact Dottie.

Mark the date on your calendar - and watch for more information soon!

Laws of LIfe
It's Almost Time to Judge Essays!

As we head into 2024, the Georgia Laws of Life Essay Contest is gearing up for judging essays - which begins on essay deadline day - February 12, 2024. As a sponsoring club, our Rotarians and invited and encouraged to sign up now. Many of us have judged in the past and can vouch for this amazing opportunity - it gives you a window into the experiences that are shaping and inspiring our young people.

What's involved in judging?

  • Essay Judges in teams of two are assigned 30 to 48 essays from one or more high schools.
  • It should take about three hours of your time to read and score assigned essays over a one-week period.
  • All scoring should be submitted 48 hours before your Team Meeting.
  • On the day of your Team Meeting, teams use GoTo to meet with a volunteer team lead to select school-level winners and Honorable Mentions.

How do you sign up?

  • Fill out the Volunteer Sign-Up Form at your earliest convenience. There you will indicate your training option and find the link to the Essay Judge Team Meeting Sign Up Genius.
  • Once completed, you will receive a Google calendar invite for your training session. We everyone to attend the training. If you cannot attend, a recording of the training session will be made available following the session.

If you have questions about participating, contact George Stewart, who has been involved with Georgia Laws of Life since its beginning.
