Wednesday, Oct. 2 Cookout Honoring Local HeroesRotary will host a cookout honoring local heroes of the city police and county sheriff's departments on Wednesday, Oct. 2. All officers and staff members are invited. The BBQ will be at the Jail-Justice Center on Smith Avenue. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 3 GRSP Students PresentWe'll hear from both our Georgia Rotary Student Program (GRSP) students at this meeting. They've had a few weeks to get settled at their host homes and will tell us about themselves and their home countries as well as what they hope to learn or accomplish this year, during their studies in the United States. Our students are Manuel Velez of Colombia, hosted by Devona and Stephan Thompson, and Dawn Mabaso of South Africa, hosted by André and Walter Marria. Additionally, club members will receive their current GRSP Foundation giving-status as we kick off our annual giving campaign. Thursday, Oct. 10 Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities Commissioner Kevin TannerOn Thursday, Oct. 10, our guest speaker will be Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities Commissioner Kevin Tanner. Commissioner Tanner brings around three decades of public service experience, with a deep understanding of Georgia’s complex behavioral health continuum. Under his leadership, historic investments in the agency’s workforce have resulted in reopening previously offline crisis beds and enabling state hospitals to operate at nearly full capacity. He'll discuss the role of his department in Georgia and its evolution. Thursday, Oct. 17 Pack & SortThe club meeting on Thursday, Oct. 17 will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Second Harvest Food Bank. The food distribution this month will be part of Hands on Thomas County Day at Harper School.
