PRESIDENT'S CORNER
President Lisa Stueve's Welcome Message

Rotary International is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The Rotary Club of Sandy Springs meets most Mondays at the Hilton Atlanta Perimeter Suites at 12:15 PM. The lunch program includes club business and also hosts guest speakers - business professionals, elected officials, non-profit leaders and others from the Sandy Springs area.

We’re always looking for ways to make an impact in the community; our club members are actively engaged with senior and youth programs that support leadership development and student scholarship. While our motto and most important feature of Rotary International is “Service Above Self,” we also work together in fellowship as we enjoy great camaraderie. Like us on Facebook Sandy Springs' Facebook Page to keep up to date on our club's activities!

I hope you will enjoy our weekly newsletter and I invite you to join us for lunch soon!

Lisa Stueve, President, Rotary Club of Sandy Springs, 2016-17

LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM
November 7, 2016 Club Assembly

On Monday, November 7, 2016, the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs held a club assembly and highlighted certain projects of the club in the upcoming year. Rick Doyle, Club Foundations Director, spoke about the Rotary International Centennial Challenge, where all Rotarians are asked to contribute $26.50, the original seed money for what became the Rotary International Foundation in 1917 or $536 the present day value of the $26.50.

Mike Stacy, Secretary, reviewed changes to the club bylaws. Gene Jordan provided an update on community service events, including the upcoming Coats for Kids for the Community Assistance Center, an End Human Trafficking event at North Springs High School set for January 2017 involving the Rotary Clubs of Sandy Springs, Brookhaven, and Dunwoody. Gene noted that there will be a Rotary Literacy Day program to be set for February 25, 2016 and asked everyone to volunteer in the upcoming Veterans Day event on November 11, 2016, where members of the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs hand out programs during the City of Sandy Springs' official event at the Concourse.

President Lisa Steuve introduced Steve Flanagan and his daughter, Elise. Elise has applied for a Rotary Youth Exchange Scholarship for her senior year and is a rising senior at North Springs High School. We wish her luck in her pursuits. This represents the first time that the Rotary Youth Exchange has come to Georgia as Florida has expanded its program to Georgia. The participants will stay for one year in a foreign country with multiple Rotary families. There are about 1,000 Rotary Youth Exchange students in any given year. Elise is pictured with her father, Steve Flanagan, and President Lisa Stueve.

Jim Squire spoke about the Shriner Project, then handed the podium over to Ashley Garrison, who spoke about her new role as the District Coordinator of the Shriner Project. Ten clubs in District 6900 will participate in the "Patient Outreach Pilot Program" by finding children in their communities who can benefit from the Shriner's Hospital's orthopedic, burn and limb deficiency medical expertise, free-of-charge. Each club has a club liaison. Julia Bernath will be the club coordinator for the Rotary Club of Sandy Springs.
