Backpacks of Love Food Drive

The Backpacks of Love ministry delivers backpacks full of non-perishable food and other needed items to homeless and at risk children and their families in Forsyth and North Fulton counties. Backpacks of Love serves 17 schools, Jesse’s House and an emergency shelter for adolescent women in Forsyth County.

Delivering food to families in an innocent-looking backpack is a way for children to retain their dignity. When the kids pick up their backpack on Friday afternoon on the way home from school, no one knows there’s food inside. It’s just a book bag. The social workers at the school make every effort to maintain confidentiality and anonymity.

The focus is to deliver non-perishable food that is nutritional and packed with protein — like, peanut butter, canned meats, stews, rice and beans, etc. Single-serving items that a child could open and heat in the microwave without an adult are also very important items. Single servings of macaroni and cheese, beefaroni, and chicken and rice are favorites. Cookies and candy are not included.

Our club members donated the specific items most commonly needed by Backpacks of Love program in a one day food drive.
