The work of the Roswell Rotary Club in Honduras is exploding. This is a trip where we take down the members that are making it all happen so they can monitor the work. We get to enjoy seeing our sponsored schools and participating in their graduation ceremonies.
The primary focus of this mission work is to provide a healthy and nutritious lunch to all kids who remain in school through 6th grade. In so doing, their prospects for a better life increase exponentially. Our partner is Lunches For Learning, and they now sponsor 30 schools. When RRC started, there were 8 schools sponsored. Many members now serve on the L4L board.
This trip we also got to see, first hand, the results of the water grant and the two new wells that are now delivering plentiful and clean water to two communities in southern Honduras. It is one thing to spend almost 3 years securing the donations and the grant dollars. It is quite another to see the water coming out of the spigots. And this is all possible because of our collaboration with an amazing club in Tegucigalpa Honduras. And the projects become sustainable through the community leadership that controls distribution and maintenance.
Honduras is a short trip by air, but a world away by measures of income and opportunity. Roswell Rotary is proud to make a slice of our charity pie available for international projects.
