Alpharetta Rotary collaborated with the Rotarians for Family Health & AIDS Prevention (RFHA) to acquire a $99,455 global grant from the Rotary Foundation with the intention to carry out the Rotary Family Health Days in one of the poorest areas in India.
Project Goal and Scope
The project goal is to provide basic health services to approximately 51,000 citizens in Madhya Pradesh, India. The project will educate, test and counsel the individuals. The comprehensive screenings will draw entire families to attend, therefore hopefully increasing the number of children reached for health screenings and immunizations.
Project Partners
The grant will also educate and train 200-300 volunteers comprised of Rotarians, family members and Rotaractors in District 3040 to organize and run the sites. Other partners include the Directorate of National Health Mission of Madhya Pradesh (DNHMMP), hospitals and other local partners.
This project is also possible because of contributions from partners of the U.S. mission, Indian health authority, and private hospitals. This additional support is coming in the form of donated time from medical personnel, test kits, immunizations, some medicines, and in-kind contributions valued at USD $1.75 million.
Involvement of Alpharetta Rotary
In March 2017, Alpharetta Rotary President Jason Binder, Rotarians Alan Palmore and Bill Weeks will travel to Madhya Pradesh to volunteer and seek opportunities for future projects. Every Alpharetta Rotarian participated (100%) in funding this global grant to celebrate the Rotary Foundation Centennial by "Doing Good in the World".
