Joel C. (“Jake”) Harris, of the Atlanta Club, succeeded Bunyan Stephens as Governor of the 69th District in 1936-37.
The efforts of the administration of Rotary International that year were directed toward extension, and under Governor Harris’ administration Charters were presented to the following clubs, named alphabetically: Bainbridge, Canton, Cochran, Fitzgerald, Hartwell, Tifton, Statesboro and the bi-city club of Summerville-Trion. The organization of Bainbridge was started under Governor Stephens’ administration and finished under Governor Harris’ term, and it was the first club in Georgia to apply for a Charter in six years. Eight new clubs were created in “Jake” Harris’ year as District Governor.
