Another milestone has been reached with second phase completion of the APADPEL Down Syndrome Training & Education Center in Pelotas, RS Brazil. Alpharetta Rotarian Bob Koncerak traveled to Pelotas in August to participate in planning sessions and a celebration with the project’s many corporate and civic partners - including Brazil Rotary District 4680. APADPEL is shorthand for the Association of Parents of Downs Persons In Pelotas.
The complex now includes a specially equipped kitchen for occupational training, dormitories to enable independent living, newly equipped therapy rooms and a fitness center play area. Several area clubs and District 4680 meet regularly with Association leaders to observe and assist with programs and a certification curriculum. Thanks to the D6900 clubs who have helped make this project an international success - including Rotary Clubs of Roswell, Stone Mountain, Peachtree City, Dunwoody, Atlanta Brazil!
