Rotarians, It's Time to Spring Forward

Ready or not…Sunday, March 8, 2020, will mess with your mind, body, and soul. Yep. It’s that time of year again! Time for “Daylight Savings Time!” And, as most of us know, “Daylight Savings Time” is failing victim to the zeal of the “paralysis of analysis.” Is “Daylight Savings Time” beneficial? Good question. So in the same zealous analytical zestfulness shall we apply the ‘celebrated’ touted “benefits” of “Daylight Savings Time” to our living life as Rotarians. Shall we? Let’s!

The US Government commends “Daylight Savings Time” because:

  1. “It offers all Americans ‘more light’ to enhance life and community activities.” OK, Rotarians, you already know where I’m heading, so don’t get a head of me. You are a Rotarian. You are “light.” You are proficient, affirmative, efficient, compassionate influencers where you live, work, and play. Providing the “Rotary Light” to do what needs to get done thereby, therefore, and therewith making happier, healthier, and hardier communities is beneficial. Rotarians light the way. Agreed. More light to do more; to be more; to give more.
  2. When Daylight Savings Time kicks in, the crime rate drops.” Government research has shown that “robbery rates after daylight saving time is implemented falls an average of 7 percent, with a much larger 27 percent drop during those light-filled evening hours that didn’t exist before the time change.” Well. Mind. Blown. We influence (or have the opportunity to influence) through RYLA, Laws of Life, Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Means Business, the Four Way Test, and a plethora of Rotary International programs, projects, and events true meaningful culture changing inclusive, positive, character development. In so many ways, all things Rotary significantly impacts ethical, moral, and civic behavior and standards. ‘Nuff said. Rotarians improve society by improving the people in our local community! Do we not? Oh, yes we do! Rotarians are honorable, incomparable, reputable, and valuable in working together to make individuals who are our society better and by doing so we improve the quality of life! Rotarians raise the standard of community life one person at a time. Each one, teach one. OK? OK!
  3. “Daylight Savings minimizes energy consumption (and significant economic impact).” Indeed! Rotary Internationalizers are dreamers, innovative thinkers, pensive ponderers, and persistent persuasive visionaries that implement and impact the marketplace! Rotarians are ‘Best Business Practices’ practitioners. We are “Vocational Exceptionalism!” “Stellar Leadership in Living Color!” We minimize energy wasted by maximizing energy focused! We Rotarians are the brightest and the best in our professional careers making significant economic impact locally, regionally, nationally, and globally! Rigorous Rotary exceptionalism has changed and will continue to change our world! Collective impact is efficient impact! Rotarians are the "glow-worms" (Churchill-ism) of living life well! Rotarians glimmer, glow, and gleam together to brighten up our world. Rotarians are indeed the fireflies of economic happiness!
  4. Lastly (bear with me Rotarians), “Daylight Savings Time lowers the incidence of traffic accidents.” Traveling, moving from one place to another, journeying on, driving is “made easier when you can see your surroundings and day light savings time facilitates a marked increase in safer roads and less incidents of accidents.” Well. We’ll see. I-285 safer after 03/08, HA! But, it is logical to consider that more light equals better vison. Better vision, more clarity. Better clarity, more prosperity. Rotarians know where we’re going, right? Yes! We go to cultivate, educate, inoculate, liberate, and motivate! We go to those who need us. We travel together fueled by Rotary International ideals, organization, leadership, and proven precepts that will mess with your mind, body, and soul as we light the way and light up the possibilities.

In District 6900, we all can surely “Spring Forward” to be our best, give our best, and do our best! We are the Rotary light; more light, more clarity to see things as they are and change things as they ought to be.

Happy Daylight Savings Time Y’all!
