Meriwether County Rotarians Supporting Literacy in So Many Ways

As communities across our state are preparing for children to return to school, the Rotary Club of Meriwether County is all over how we can help We believe it’s important to support the students and the parents, grandparents, relatives or community members who help their children as they strive to be educated to make our world a better place.

The Club has supported numerous educational efforts such as Get Meriwether Reading, Community Literacy Events, Trunk or Treat for Books, Rotary grants for Wrap- Around Centers in our local schools and community early literacy.  Club members have spent hours, preparing “it’s a girl thing” bags for the Wrap-Around centers, collecting clothing, organizing resources, and assisting in applying for grants to help the centers.

In reviewing our membership, it appears all our members serve children, youth, and families in their job and community capacities either directly or indirectly. A few spotlights would be:

  • Kay Williamson – Board of Directors, Flint River Academy and Board of Directors, Meriwether Family Connection
  • Cynthia Kilby – Director, Pine Mountain Library System
  • Melissa Trujillo – Board of Directors, Meriwether Family Connections
  • Carolyn McKinney – Director, Meriwether County Chamber of Commerce, and Board of Directors, Meriwether Family Connections
  • Robert Griffin – Superintendent of Meriwether County Schools, Board of Directors of Meriwether Family Connection and Meriwether County Board of Health
  • Shanna Downs – Director of West Georgia RESA
