Riding the rapids along with a space shuttle simulation were two of many highlights for 41 Georgia Rotary Student Program scholars in Columbus for the GRSP Tony Wright Student Weekend September 15-17. The weekend was hosted by Rotarians from the Columbus, North Columbus and Muscogee Rotary Clubs. Two GRSP alumni members who were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Columbus - Laury Petit (Class of 22-23) and Sebastian Villa (Class of 15-16) helped in the efforts, including Bafa' Bafa', a cultural simulation game.
Scholars
spent Friday evening at the Coca-Cola Space Science Center at Columbus State
University as they toured the collection of NASA and Apollo memorabilia,
explored interactive exhibits, experienced the space shuttle simulation to the
International Space Station and observed the night skies in the planetarium.
Saturday’s scheduled included a whitewater rafting excursion on the
Chattahoochee River along with time with weekend host Rotarians and families as
well as other GRSP scholars. The group returned to their respective campuses
Sunday with the aid of GRSP Trustees, sponsoring Rotary Club host families and
club coordinators. Scholars are scheduled to visit historic Savannah for the
Hue Thomas, Jr., GRSP Student Weekend October 13-15.
