The Rotary Club of Atlanta West End is delighted to share the remarkable success of our latest Global Grant project, spearheaded by longtime member Mark Newman. This collaborative initiative united the club with Rotary partners from the United States, South Africa, England, and Germany. Made possible through the generous support of these clubs, the project stands as a testament to the power of global service and shared purpose.
Through this international partnership, the local hospital's emergency department has been significantly upgraded with life-saving medical equipment. The project provided a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine, two advanced cardiac monitors, and an intraosseous (IO) device designed to deliver critical medications when standard intravenous access is not possible. The IO device is especially crucial for treating young children in urgent situations.
Members from collaborating clubs from three continents gathered for a live Zoom demonstration led by the hospital’s ER physician and administrator. Witnessing the equipment in action—including a real-time view of a cardiac patient's heart—was a profound reminder of the global impact Rotary can achieve when working together. This project not only provides advanced tools for critical care but also ensures that the hospital staff can respond effectively to medical emergencies, ultimately saving lives and improving health outcomes in the community.
This initiative was a true testament to Rotary's core values of service, fellowship, and integrity, aligning with the Atlanta West End Rotary Club's mission to create lasting change both locally and globally. The success of this project was made possible through the collaboration of multiple Rotary Districts and Clubs:
• District 9350 – Cape Town, South Africa
• District 6900 – Atlanta West End, USA
• District 1890 – Cuxhaven & Hamburg-Deichtor, Germany
• District 5300 – Claremont Sunrise, Los Angeles, USA
• District 1040 – Holderness, England
• District 5190 – Alturas, USA
• District 5440 – Fort Collins, USA
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every Rotarian and club involved for their dedication and contributions to making this project a reality. Together, we have proven that service knows no borders, and that by working collaboratively, we can uplift communities and strengthen healthcare systems worldwide.
Our club remains committed to continuing this legacy of impactful service, staying true to Rotary’s Five Avenues of Service—Club, Vocational, Community, International, and Youth Service. This project is just one example of how Rotarians live out the motto, Service Above Self.
Stay tuned for more inspiring updates as we continue our work to build a healthier, stronger world through Rotary service!
