North Cobb Rotary
launched a pilot project to provide girls in Nigeria reusable feminine hygiene
products, so that they could attend school all month. Currently, in the
more impoverished areas of Nigeria, when girls reach adolescence, they begin
falling behind in their studies because of absenteeism. But it is clear
that if girls stay in school, they have a much more promising future. Ada
Wikina is the North Cobb Rotary's International Service Chair, and is leading
this project, in cooperation with two Nigerian Rotary Clubs.
Here at home, the club hosted a community-wide information event regarding human trafficking - in conjunction with Rescuing Hope and the Rotary Action Group Against Slavey (RAGAS) held a community-wide information event in Kennesaw. Police chiefs, investigators, a prosecuting attorney, medical professionals, and a social worker spoke about what they see happening right in own own back yard. The evening was both enlightening and gut-wrenching. The North Cobb Rotary is committed to increasing awareness and action against trafficking.
