Join us this Friday, January 29, as Dr. Suzanne R. Smith, an Americus, Georgia Rotarian, talks about the Burundi School Garden Project. You can join via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86202979419.
Suzanne started at Georgia Southwestern State University July 1, 2018 as the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. Before that, she was at Washington State University Vancouver from 1997-2018 where she most recently served as the Director of Academic Planning and Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. She is a co-author of the book Exploring Family Theories which has its fifth edition coming out in 2021. Suzanne’s primary area of research is family relationships, and she has studied these relationships among rural families in poverty as well as among the Hutterites.
Suzanne devotes a good deal of time to helping oversee and fundraise for a school gardens program in Burundi, Africa. Suzanne and her colleagues at Washington State University started this project in 2015.
She is a member of the Americus Georgia Rotary Club, and lives in Americus, GA with her husband, Brett Lloyd, and son Sam Lloyd. Their daughter is a junior at University of Oregon.
We have moved back to Zoom through the month of February. As President Ardy said last week, the Dunwoody Country Club has been a great partner to us over the last few months - and we appreciate what they have done to help us meet in person by opening their doors to us with just a 25-meal minimum. However, they have advised us (since we established the pandemic dues rate) that their finances don't allow them to continue at this level and that the new minimum will be 40 meals. Given our current live attendance level is running about 15-20, we are going to explore new options. We will move to Zoom only through the month of February. If you have ideas about places to meet, we'd love to have you share them.
