Join us this Friday at the Embassy Suites to welcome Billy Kramer, owner and founder of NFA Burger. After a 25-year career that spanned the shoe industry, radio, print and digital media, Billy left the corporate world to follow a passion he developed during his business travels ... burgers.
His first popup was in the spring of 2018 at Battle and Brew in Sandy Springs quickly followed by pop-ups at Galla's Pizza in Chamblee, Where's the Scoop, Big Sky and the TOUR Championship. In the fall of 2019, he was fortunate enough to stumble upon a newly opened cafe inside the Chevron (at Dunwoody Village) just three miles from my house. After meeting with the owner, he decided to allow Billy to launch his first NFA Burger inside his gas station. [more]
Alison Norris is a long-time Dunwoody resident. You may have first heard of her when she owned Alison's Restaurant from 2010 to 2014 or more recently as a realtor with the Nabors Norris Real Estate Agency. She first became active with charitable causes when she founded The Tabitha Elizabeth Norris Foundation Inc. Bob O'Brien met her and her husband, Ron, at the Dunwoody Country Club and suggested that she would be a great Rotarian.
Alison realized she would like to serve as part of a larger group. The club inducted her in May 2023, she began volunteering immediately, starting with the golf tournament the following Monday. She has volunteered at nearly every club activity since. Her favorite activity was organizing the Tapestri project to prepare backpacks for over 100 kids starting school in Fall 2023. Somehow she managed to volunteer at all of these events even when she'd broken her back - she literally broke a vertebra last year and wore a brace for several weeks. [more]
A miracle occurred last Saturday at Bounds Gardens: A record 15 Sprucetarians reported to our little park that had shown signs of heart-breaking neglect.
Dunwoody Rotarians Jenny Stipick, Tina Philpot, Rick Otness, Ed Holliday, Neal MacDonald and his life partner Amy, and the Ol' Park Ranger came. They were joined by YOUNG members of the Atlanta Rotaract Club led by Rotaract President Megan Radney. They were Madeleine, Alex West, Valentina Buchanan, Paula Carder, and Sahas Das, as well as a young walk-up volunteer named Norman Downey.
Ninety minutes and done. Eleven yard trash bags. Twelve pine straw bales. Restoring the Gardens to its rightful place as "the prettiest little .005 acre park in Dunwoody" [more]
When our GRSP student Hoa Nguyen from Vietnam walked into the Atlanta airport's international lobby yesterday, there was no missing the RC of Dunwoody welcome committee - outfitted with bright pink welcome signs and balloons - thanks to Dunwoody host mom Meredith Morris for the fine welcome! Meredith, our outbound Rotary Youth Exchange student Kiera (getting ready to leave for her RYE year in Spain), our GRSP Trustee Carter Stout, and Jackie Cuthbert (who welcomed her first GRSP student 24 years ago). We whisked Hoa off to Oglethorpe University, where former GRSP student Shashwat Pradham joined our welcome committee and helped move Hoa into her dorm room.
Hoa starts Oglethorpe orientation today and heads off to Columbus on Friday for the GRSP conclave - a three-day weekend that introduces the class of 40 students from around the world to Georgia Rotarians, and provides some orientation to start the year off right! We're hoping to have Hoa at next Friday's meeting. [more]
It's the Magic of Rotary - all we do to make a difference! And to do that, we count on a different kind of magic - turning beautiful bottles of fine whiskey into dollars that help support our efforts in the community.
We are preparing for this year's whiskey raffle. Do you have a bottle of whiskey, bourbon, rye, or scotch in the back of your liquor cabinet? Please consider making an in-kind contribution to the cause! Reach out to Dave Burr (404-556-4065) to coordinate a donation.
The whiskey raffle helps us raise money for all that we do in the community! Help us keep the magic going!
The District 6900 RMB meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month for networking and socializing. The next meeting is August 27 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Politian Row at Ashford Lane (near Perimeter Mall).
