Charity Spotlight Homestretch
Mission: To guide working homeless families with minor children in North Metro Atlanta toward increased self-reliance and stability by providing life-skills education, mentoring, and supportive housing. Fast Facts: • Founded in 1993, Homestretch is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this fall. • Today, the poverty rate in Georgia tops 18% and is even higher for single mothers. • 14.8% of metro-Atlantans live in poverty. • 23.3% of Roswell households, many earning minimum wage, are forced to spend more than 30% of their income for housing leaving very little for food, clothing, utilities, transportation, child care and medical care. • In Fulton County, a person would need to work 91 hours per week at minimum wage to be able to afford a 1-bedroom apartment. • Homestretch has been recognized for effectiveness by the Georgia Alliance to End Homelessness, Community Housing Development Organization (HUD), and the North Fulton Homelessness and Housing Continuum of Care. • Roswell Rotarians actively participate in annual fundraisers that include: Peachtree Tea in February, Road Race in Roswell in April, and on alternating years BBQ in the Burbs and the annual Golf Tournament.
